The small diverse community at Mitch is great and makes up for the lack of strong leadership in school leaders. Lack of support for students and especially for teachers. The turnover rate for staff is quite high, and no this is not because they don’t know how to handle the job, it’s due to the lack of support from administrators. There is not enough parent communication when an issue happens at the school, if your child is unsafe with themselves or others is ridiculous. It’s important for parents to be aware of what their child does at school. Your student will never be challenged academically here, TAG is not a term that Mitch uses, if your child is academically advanced they have no proper curriculum to support their needs. This is a mediocre school with mediocre curriculum. The only true difference between Mitch and other schools is the garden program that they have. If you truly want to “stand out” and send your child to Mitch go ahead but don’t be surprised when you begin to learn about the parental hierarchy that’s been established and the family’s who “run” the school and push for their own agenda in classrooms and at the school board level. Families who abuse their power and school board representatives who are failing at their job and not taking action and accountability for placing non-qualified administrators in these positions where they are at the forefront of our children’s education and learning. Please consider another school, Mitch is and should never have been a destination school. Thing aren’t the same and they will never be the same when the first once were in the beginning. If you think the staff turnover rate is high, just expect the same to happen with students as well.

We are extremely pleased with our experience at MITCH. Great curriculum, specials weekly, including agriculture, art, music and PE. Consistent communication to parents and great family/ school engagement.Solid Social emotional learning program, and a safe, nurturing environment for kids. So many enrichment opportunities for students throughout the year. Clean, well organized and run campus makes us feel very confident to send our son to MITCH.

They do not offer support for students with neurodiverse needs, unless the parent is on the board, your child will be pushed out. Support for students is not equal. Staff turnover is a problem. Leadership constantly changing. They are pushing a very liberal agenda.

Our child attended MITCH and we should have pulled him sooner than we did. He had a 504 plan and only one teacher actually cared to follow it and then she left.He had the same teacher for a couple of years for English. He failed her class and we didn’t realize things were so dire. Again, he has a 504 for ADHD and we had no communication leading up to his failing her class, despite basic communication being something on his 504. He described shaming tactics to get him to focus. And the teacher would tell us she thought he was lazy. She didn’t understand that some days may be better for his attention and seemed to lack knowledge about ADHD, nor the desire to learn more about it. Her methods made our child hate school. He also called himself stupid on an almost daily basis and had suicidal thoughts during those years…. We didn’t realize at the time how much the school environment played a role in his self esteem. Our son is in a different school now. The teachers allow for one-on-one time, as needed to review concepts and have provided a counselor who checks in with him daily. The experience is a complete 180 from our experience at MITCH and our son is thriving. He’s still not entirely self-motivated, but he doesn’t hate school and is happier than he’s ever been. I can’t remember the last time he called himself stupid or said he wanted to die. BTW- he just got an A in English!

I am so glad that we chose to put our child in MITCH. My son has an IEP and the support he receives is so great. The whole staff is so supporting and it feels like a real community. With the smaller class sizes, I feel that the kids are able to really establish a strong bond with the teachers and their classmates. They have done an amazing job during the pandemic with distance learning. The teachers and staff have been very engaging during this time with keeping the parent informed.

We are extremely happy with MITCH; our kids are thriving at this school. All the teachers have been extremely supportive of our kids and very communicative. Our kids come home excited daily about new concepts they’re learning in history, the environment, art, math, writing, etc. We love the small class size and the community of the school.

My experience with this school as a whole is exceptional. My kids love coming to school everyday, they are learning at a much fast rate than their peers at other schools in this area, and the staff at this school always goes above and beyond. The students are friendly and compassionate towards each other. I cannot recommend MITCH enough for your child!

Terrible. Run from this school as fast as you can. They do not care about your child’s welfare and if you speak up the administration and director are nasty and bully you and your child. There is no accountability.

Best decision we ever made was to pull our child from our locally zoned school, and get them into MITCH. The teacher is firm and loving. The children have accepted our child unconditionally. The school handles behavior issues swiftly. Ultimately, our child is blossoming, and actually talks about their school day now.

Our first impression was at the back to school registration where we showed up and they didn't have ANY of our paperwork ready. They claimed it had been summer and they were getting back to school and that we never paid the money to hold our spot. So they scrambled around and found our application and we signed some papers and paid the $300 activity fee. The staff was unorganized, rude and undermining the entire time. Fast forward to the first day of school. Nightmare drop off system where parents are "required" to volunteer. Pick up was worse! It took 30 mins to sit in the pick up line and there is very little parking if you feel the need to go into the building (all the surrounding buildings had very clear NO MITCH PARKING posted everywhere!) Our daughter said the first day of school was ALL about rules and procedures. By the next morning our daughter didn't want to go. It took one day for her to not want to go to this school. By day 3 it was like dropping your child off at prison with no choice but thinking you made the right choice since this is such a “good school.” We ultimately decided this school was not a good fit for our family. Once we told the director of the school we were not going to continue she was very cold and uncaring. To top off our horrible experience with this school they would NOT REFUND A SINGLE penny of the $300 we had paid. I can understand them keeping a deposit but they kept the ENTIRE amount and said there was nothing they can do since we signed the papers at registration. Our advice to you if you are thinking about this school is to pay the minimum up front and make monthly payments all year just in case your experience turns out as bad as ours did. If we had paid the minimum we wouldn't be out the $300.

My child will be in his 3rd year at MITCH next year and we have been SO very happy with our decision to place him there. The small classrooms means each and every child gets the attention they need and the time for teachers and administrators to notice if they need additional assistance or more challenging material. They have created programs for the students needing to be more challenged in different areas, a feat when you consider the lack of district and financial support. I have also seen students needing additional support get it, before the red tape of IEP's are available. MITCH will find a way to help our children succeed. My child is proud of what he learns, and readily shares things that I am surprised by. He enjoys it!The slight inconvenience of not having a bus is actually a bonding experience we use to spend some time together without screens. The lack of green grass will soon be solved by the upcoming addition and development of the Foundation Garden next door. The playground is more than substantial enough for our small school, and I have never heard a complaint from my child about a lack of play time, or being forced to sit for long periods. The school works really hard to provide different clubs and experiences for the kids, and we've added a language club, a yoga club, and science club to our offerings this year. While a significant effort is put into fundraising each year, it does not seem vastly different from most other schools or organizations, this fundraising is also critical to bridge the gap left by the reduced funding we get because we are a charter. The school has a brilliant community. When I visit, or volunteer, all the faces are smiling. I was so turned off by the community public school when we attended kindergarten open house and all of the staff members seemed so displeased to be there, and scowled at me when I discussed my dilemma of a private kinder vs. their public school. I chose a private kinder!I truly believe that when I chose MITCH for my child, I made the BEST choice.

MITCH has been a great school for our child. Every child thrives differently in various environments. Some kids do very well in a highly structured setting and some do not. If your child needs a highly structured environment, then MITCH is perfect for you. I love that my child is actually learning valuable information and not just being groomed to test well.

Every student is pushed to their fullest potential by enthusiastic teachers who love being there! The real magic of it is that the kids enjoy their curriculums so much that learning isn't a chore for my two kids, We are so proud to be a part of this positive community at MITCH. As parents, we really appreciate the positive reinforcement that is consistent at MITCH as well as their efforts to teach respecting oneself and others.

I was very disappointed in our experience here. The children are given very little independence or time to play, (even in kindergarten) and are expected to sit quietly for long periods of time. The school lacks many resources (like green space outside or a library).

Originally I was quite excited and hopeful for the school - but the lack of traditional features (like grass outside) or even a library makes me wonder if it was a good decision. Early in the school year I received a kind of nasty email about the kids not paying attention (addressed to all the parents) from the PE teacher that I found unnecessary and it left a bad taste in my mouth. The PSO hosting a "Daddy Daughter Dance" and a "Mother Son Movie Night" feels a bit sexist and exclusionary to a mother of daughters.

I am very happy with MITCH. I have two elementary age children and hear from numerous families that come in from other schools how much further advanced grades are at MITCH. The school is moving to a five day school week in the next school year. The school has so many exciting things outside of the classroom as well. The Executive Director is very approachable. I encourage you to call her and find out more.

My kids love Mitch. They are doing math two grades above their normal grade. They read and write better than their friends in other schools. Mitch is great. Period.

History is repeating itself. The director has her own agenda and is not listening to parents. Several parents including myself have tried to have conversations with her but she just doesn't seem to listen when your talking to her. The school is not full. Parents used to spread the word about this school and now hardly anyone is. Last spring the seventh grade class had 26 kids in it now it has only 14. One of the 5th grade classes has only a few boys in it because all the rest have left this past fall. These are families that have been there a long time and they're leaving because of the atmosphere. No more no uniform days. Assigned seating for lunch. Kids are so unhappy. At a board meeting once they actually said they didn't want to hear about the loss of community everyone was feeling. You also have to pay an activities few of $300 a year per student and if they don't use it all they keep it and roll it over every year. But in 8th grade at the end of the year they keep whatever is not used. Last year they kept $150 from each student. It's so sad that a once great school is falling apart. Please think very hard before sending your child here.

MITCH charter school is an amazing school. I have had one child start off in a traditional public school setting and one child at MITCH since Kindergarten. The schools are night and day. MITCH offers an academic program that ignites a child's learning and pushes them to the best they can be. With a well rounded integrated curriculum my kids learn a topic and it is reinforced in all subjects. My child who was not engage in public school is fully involved in MITCH and working at or above grade level now. It is amazing what this school has done for my kids. And the Director at the school is amazing. She truly loves the kids and does everything in the interest of the children. She greets them every morning as they enter the building, in the rain or snow she is ALWAYS there. She knows what is needed to make a school of excellence and she will get MITCH there. The school is already outstanding in my eyes compared to what the public schools had to offer. I am excited to see what else the director and faculty do to make this school to stand out even more.

Good for elementary but middle school has a lack of opportunities. They do have a technology class for middle school but they only teach typing and sending e-mails.
