My son started in the Lower School at Ranney School this past fall (2022-23) and we couldn’t be happier with our experience. Although he had been doing well at his former school, we sought a school that could provide him with increased academic rigor, the opportunity to develop different interests, and a diverse community with strong values. After visiting Ranney, we knew right away that it was the right fit for our son and for our family, and this school year has confirmed that Ranney delivers on all of the things that we were seeking in a private education and more. Not only have our expectations been met, but they have been far exceeded. We feel so fortunate that our son has teachers who challenge him, recognize his potential as a learner, and help him strive to be the best version of himself every day. While the academic program is incredibly strong, administrators and staff also focus on the importance of social-emotional learning as well. Kindness, empathy, and respect are all seamlessly woven into the fabric of the Ranney culture and are actively modeled by administrators and staff. As a result, my son has formed a wonderful circle of friends that are diverse in terms of background and interests. His peer group has been an integral part of his experience at Ranney, and we are delighted to be part of a community that so strongly values education and citizenship. While I could touch upon all of the amazing things that Ranney has to offer its students, perhaps the most important gift that Ranney has given our son is happiness. He has shared that he wakes up every morning feeling excited to go to school. He comes home and excitedly talks about his day, his learnings, and his time with his peers. As a parent, it is the greatest feeling in the world to know that your child not only feels connected to his school community, but is also valued for who he is within that community. We have been so impressed by Ranney and are thankful that we made the decision to send our son this incredible school. We are thrilled that our youngest son will be attending Ranney beginning next year as well!

My child attended public school from grades K-3. We moved over to Ranney for fourth grade. In this short time, our child has flourished. Smaller classroom sizes prevented him from being "lost in the system" as he would have been in the higher grades of public school. There are numerous activities and sports available to all children (K - 12). These opportunities allow him to discover new interests and expand his horizons. I can't say enough about the teachers. They work in conjunction with families to bring out the absolute best in their students. We could not be happier with our decision for our son's education.

Ranney School was the perfect selection of a private school for the type of education, values, classroom size, activities, campus environment and community we were looking for that we knew our son would thrive in. We have been at Ranney for 8 years now and it is the best decision we ever made!

We are prioritizing our kids at Ranney school. You will find a culture that encourages kindness, inclusiveness and a genuine love of learning. Every period is meaningful, including lunch. Children are safe in every way. You will find accountability in this school. It is not held hostage to the Department of Education or the teachers unions. Teachers actually want to be here. Can you imagine this?! They are experienced and they know each child wholly and completely. Everyone is supported in this school. We are all on the same team. I can only encourage you to visit Ranney school. It is unmatched. There is no school anywhere around us that can come close to Ranney.

Ranney has been a wonderful place for my two children who have been there for the past 6 years. They loved the lower school. The teachers were great and the curriculum was challenging but fun. One of my children recently transitioned to middle school (which is another building on campus) and she absolutely loves it. Ranney's campus allows for many opportunities that they most likely wouldn't have at other schools like swimming, robotics, and fencing. We have nothing but great things to say about Ranney and we expect both of our children to move on to great colleges after they graduate from Ranney.

My children have been students at Ranney School for 10 years now (since the 3's program) and will stay on through high school! We can't say enough great things about the community, faculty, diversity, and endless opportunities Ranney provides our children. They have the opportunity to try new things (and feel comfortable trying out a variety of new things) offered at Ranney - from sports to chorus to robotics. While there are many options for schools, I don't think you can beat the peace of mind we as parents feel knowing our children are receiving not only the best education and care, but the exposure to new things and extracurricular activities to make them well-rounded and global citizens.

We've been at Ranney school for eight years now with two children enrolled since the early education program. We continue to be over the moon with our experience at Ranney. Eight years later we're still so happy with our choice. Our confidence in the teachers, staff, academics, arts, sports, community, and well-rounded child focus is of the highest standards, and our children LOVE school!

Excellent overall. We have been impressed by the quality of the programs (STEAM, robotics, arts, global studies, college counseling), the strength of the faculty, and the warm and nuturing environment. It is a really amazing place and seems only to be getting better.

As a family new to the school who entered in the lower school (elementary) Ranney has met and exceeded our expectations. Academically, our son seems both challenged and supported. We are thrilled not only with his regular classroom teacher but also with the specialists--languages, music, art (art teacher is fantastic). The school seems to be going through a healthy transition--looking at improving what it has done well and trying some new and innovative things. My son even says he loves the homework (he even asks for more) and the new math program (Singapore). The only negative we have seen is that some of the parents seem a little tough. We have settled into a great group, but there are a few families who seem negative. Overall, though, that has not changed our experience. We couldn't be happier.

I have a lower school student who has attended Ranney school since Beginners. Ranney school has been the best investment my husband and I have made. Our son has had incredible experiences and opportunities at his school. His teachers are like family not to just him, but for me and my husband- they help us make decisions best for him and we share trust in shaping his school experience as he grows up. Even when we have had concerns we feel welcome to come in and speak to the teacher and administrators to help us support our son. There is always an open door. We are proud of him and his school. Ranney is a great place to raise a family! An excellent school! We can't wait to cross the lawn and celebrate his graduation.

Excellent learning environment that allows the student to explore all areas of possible interest. Challenging curriculum that prepares the student for future educational success and much more advanced than any other learning institution in the area. Quality teachers who take the time to Know and Value your child and who are engaged with each individual student. All aspects of the school work to see your child exceeds in any endeavor they undertake.

I have a 2nd grader and 5th grader (both boys) at Ranney and their school experience has been nothing short of fabulous. They both entered as beginners when they were 3. Ranney has an incredible arts and music department. My 11 year old has learned to play violin well enough to play in orchestras without even a private lesson. With extended hours and after school programming for enrichment Ranney school is perfect for families with two working parents. Your children get exposed to so many activities that it helps to hone in on where your child's talents and interests lie. Every year, my children have loved their teachers, friends and overall school experience. If you are a stay at home parent, the school offers many ways to be involved and be around your children during the school day. My boys love to see me helping out around the school. I feel that the friends and the bonds that they have formed with last through a lifetime and can be extremely valuable for social networking in the future.

After six years at Ranney, I can honestly say that it has been a privilege to be part of this community. Ranney is truly an exceptional and multifaceted school. Every family will have a different experience based on their child s interests but there are some common denominators. For me, it comes down to two things. The first is, at Ranney, every child is known and valued they truly are and, at Ranney, it s cool to be smart. Ranney isn t for everyone. The academics are rigorous and there is a lot of homework every night, but the classes are small and the teachers are exceptional educators. They genuinely enjoy teaching and the students benefit from the enthusiasm they bring to the classroom each and every day. The new headmaster is also amazing. He is committed to preserving what is special about Ranney celebrating the unique nature of every child - while being open to changes that help students fulfill their full potential, whatever that happens to be. We are as enthusiastic today as we were six years ago and look forward with excitement to all the Upper School has to offer.

I have had two children that went to Ranney from Beginners 3 years to the end of middle school. Although I've paid tuition and was generous to the PSA, I never donated to the school. Still, at every turn, the administration and teachers were highly focused on my children from day one. If there was an issue or challenge, you were able to discuss it in detail with the administrators almost immediately. Recently, my child was considering boarding school, even though, he was a full year removed from Ranney, they took the time to meet with us, research our options, and offer to contact their contacts at our prospective schools on our behalf. The Headmaster Dr. Sykoff, came in to meet with us and spent time helping us. Keep in mind, he has announced his retirement, our son is no longer a student and we have never been donors or benefactors. All schools have their flaws but Ranney, its board and Dr. Sykoff have progressively improved this school every year since we've been there. Anyone who is serious about their children's experience should consider this school. i've found it to have a great bunch of involved parents, strong leadership and consistent progressive direction.

Send One kid in 6th and the other in 9th. My older son was having academic problems but shortly after the school noticed they helped him in many ways by staying after, tutoring by older students, and just more lessons on how to study. ONE on ONE is big here. They really are a great school made with great kids. The community is welcoming and a great place to be.... There are things that will be in every single school meaning bullying ext

From another post..."Their is bullying" and "learner than the very rigorous"....? horrible.... No one who actually attends Ranney or a parent of a Ranney student would use such horrible grammar. If you are a student who can't keep up with the curriculum, study harder. If you are a disgruntled parent, send your child somewhere else. Monmouth county has TONS of great private AND public schools.

Am looking into schools near this area and came across Ranney School. I've heard great things about the school. The only negative I've heard was that some children are just not academically cut out for Ranney (hence some negative reviews) but most other dedicated students and parents seem to love the school. The curriculum comparison between Ranney and other top public/private schools near the Rumson area show that Ranney's curriculum is often 1-2 years faster/accelerated. We are very excited for the potential to send our children here. The most impressive statistic was the 100% college matriculation rate for the last 5 years. 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011. Wow.....

i have 2 children in MS. Their is bullying in MS as with every MS, this admin can't seem to wrap their hands around it and control it. My child has been out of school more than in and I have spent thousands on private tutors. The child that was the ring leader supposedly has a family that donates a lot. I hate to think that would influence discipline but I have to say it certainly seems to have. Unless your child is a self motivated independant learner than the very rigorous academics will overwhelm them. Socially if your child has ever had problems I wouldn't suggest ever sending them to this school with it's small social structure, when a child is on the outs, they are out with the entire class. Parents seem to be able to throw their weight around with the headmaster and make unrealistic demands. Teacher retention is a concern for me, faculty does change more than appears to be effective. For the right child, a very intellectual & a solid social standing with their peers this school can be great & academically challenging. I believe they need more student support services. The support staff they have are overloaded and a bit demeaning to parents.
