I cannot, in good conscience, recommend Thorp, WA to any parent or student. The prevalence of sexism and favoritism creates a toxic and unjust environment that hinders the academic and personal growth of many students. Urgent action is needed to address these serious issues and to create a fair and supportive learning environment for all students.

I am beyond frustrated with this school. The administration is completely incompetent and dismissive of any parental concerns. The teachers seem overwhelmed and uninterested in actually helping the students. Classrooms are severely overcrowded, making it impossible for my child to get any personal attention. Bullying is rampant and goes unchecked, creating a hostile environment. The curriculum is outdated and doesn’t prepare students for higher education. Facilities are dilapidated, with broken equipment and unsanitary conditions. Extracurricular activities are virtually non-existent, and the few offered are disorganized and poorly run. My child’s education and well-being have suffered greatly, and I deeply regret enrolling them here. Avoid this school at all costs.

I could write a book about how terrible this school is. It's a total joke. If you love your child avoid this school at all cost.

After the principal changed, the school became not taught by the real teachers. I received the warning email from someone. We should have quit. They are very political too. If your political creed was different from yours, the principal will be ordered from the upper administration to be bully on the student. And he did. My son got severely damaged his GPA and quit the school. I would say that this school is not for everybody.

My family moved to Thorp so we could have our kids go to school there. We had them enrolled in a local school and although the staff tried hard, it was just impossible as there are too many kids and not enough room. The classes were overcrowded and I kids came home exhausted emotionally. That's a lot since they are pretty strong minded and usually do well in school. I've been very happy with the result of moving to Thorp. The school feels like a family, the kids are happy and the community is full of very nice, old fashioned neighbors who really care. Thumbs up all the way!

My children have received an excellent education at Thorp. The school experienced some difficult times under the former principal/superintendent, but has since implemented some dramatic changes with the new superintendent including an innovative iPad program where every student is provided with their own tablet computer for personalized instruction and learning. The teachers work with the parents to keep them informed and on top of everything, and act on any matters of concern quickly. Kids who need extra help get a lot of personalized care, and kids who excel have lots of options for advanced learning and competitive activities that keep them excited. The staff puts in long hours, class sizes are small, and the kids at Thorp are very lucky. As a parent, I would recommend Thorp to any family without reservation.

You must keep the principal Jim Hainer under a microscope. He is very heavy-handed and cares nothing about the rights of others. He has been pushed out of three districts on the West side before he landed in Thorpe and there are reasons for that.
