I often felt ignored by administrators and counselors, especially one in particular who enjoyed making children's lives more difficult her life's mission. I felt prepared for college not because of high school but because of my own dedication. The school does not recognize outside achievements well, if at all. I was arguably the most involved student in my grade, sports not withstanding and was never acknowledged by admin the same way athletic achievements were. I felt my mental health suffer and received very little support.

They do not work with struggling students. You either are an A student or you are an ELA student. The students not labeled as needing help and are in need of help do not get it. The cherry pick the ones they want to help and ignore the others. If you are not part of the cliques they create you are not on their radar enough to care about. The counselors are more intrigued with what the kids parents do for a living rather than where the kids should head career wise. Earth Science regents my son was given a packet to fill out and study. Asked him where the key was his response was they never gave him one. He received one and so did the rest of the 9th grade after I approached the principal 5 days prior to the exam. Way to be proactive Westhill and ensure that what your students have studied for three weeks was accurate. They praise themselves as a blue ribbon school yet they did not do one thing to help or offer my son who was struggling with English. The teacher said to go to IA. He did and came home and told me that all he did was read the whole time. He learned nothing. Signed my son up at his new school they immediately jumped up and said we want to test him and help him. I didn't even have to ask or say anything. Maybe they should think about investing more into the struggling student academically than their basketball team. My advise do not send your child here unless they fall in to the cherry picking categories. If you do trust me they will struggle and fail.
