This school is a disgrace! I had my child in elementary school and he failed two major subjects but because he got 100 in GYM and 100 in an RTI class they averaged all his grades together and passed him along. Excuse me what??! He had a hard time with keeping up with his reading level so they put him in an RTI class and his reading level went down, doesn’t make sense. I still have kids there only because they don’t want to switch schools so late in their school career. This year all of my kids had teachers assign 2-3 projects the last full week of school because the teachers were afraid that the students didn’t do well enough on their EOCs so they assigned ridiculously easy projects in an effort to offset expectedly low EOC grades. There is absolutely no reason for these students being so far behind with only about 14 students per teacher. My kids came from a school with 40+ kids per class and were almost an entire year ahead of the students here. The communication between most school staff and parents is a joke, it’s almost like they don’t want the parents to be involved. I can’t down on everybody on the school staff, there are a handful or so of really great teachers there, I’d even say they’re amazing but the way the school is ran is abhorrent. Students are rarely ever held accountable if their work is not done on time they just simply extend the due date and those who have finished their work on time sit around and do nothing. They are not preparing kids for reality. I have caught my kids starting to slack simply because they could get away with it but they quickly stopped that when I told them I would not allow them to turn in late work and instead they would have a missing assignment. The kids at the school aren’t bad, it’s most of the adults, if you don’t know people they treat you like you’re less than. You’ll see kids get away with breaking dress code (which is another point of contention) but kids who’s parents and “in” with them will get dress coded for the silliest things. I believe the girls shorts have to be no more than 3-4 inches above the knee, which is crazy when you take into consideration the difference in lengths of legs, my daughters legs are about a 32” inseam, they’re all legs, even Bermuda shorts aren’t long enough for dress code but boys can wear unbelievably tight and mid thigh shorts that leave little to the imagination. I wish I had known these things before sending my kids there, I never would have.

I have had to take one child out of elementary school and have had to home school him. They passed him on twice without him having been able to do basic math or being able to read at grade level. The 4th grade level books were so far beyond him, as he never should have been passed to 3rd grade. e should have repeated 2nd, but the school refused to do this. No Child Left Behind at its finest. I probably will be removing my other one before the end of the year. The school grades their TCAP on a scale and though she made their 100%-her actual score was 60. She is struggling with the new Core Standards, as instead of starting with kindergarten students, they started as soon as they got the books, no matter what the grade, so most children are behind before they get a chance to learn the basics. She was straight 'A's, but now is unable to do the work- the books are awful. Math: Little or no explanation as to how to do a problem, the student is supposed to figure it out by themselves. The diagrams and figures do not match the responses they are looking for. Reading-poorly written stories, again with the assumption that the child figure out the words without help. No Phonics !
