Our words of thanks are not adequate for the patience , hard work and attention Excelsior Academy has given our grandson this past year. We salute Excelsior staff and teacher, Ms. Sharmilla for their dedication to students with learning disabilities. Our grandson just finished his first year at Excelsior and it was a very successful one! We enrolled him in Excelsior's 2017 Summer Program. We saw a remarkable improvement in a few short months so he began the 2017-2018 school year at Excelsior. This past year he has experienced significant growth academically. Excelsior is a very small school but their efforts in offering their students the experiences a a larger school is commendable. We feel fortunate to have found Excelsior Academy.

My son was in junior high when he had a great experience with the summer program at Excelsior. Previously, he had struggled with the pressures of public middle school in Katy, but was able to find his confidence that helped to build his self-esteem with the caring teachers and leaders who invested personally in the lives of the students during his summer experience. If we had lived closer to the school, we would have placed our son in the regular academic school year program, but it was not convenient at the time. His experience at Excelsior was a personal one and my son continues to speak highly of the friends he met, the teachers, and of AJ. who all demonstrated personal interest in his well-being and academic interests while at the school.

My son has been going to Excelsior Academy for 2 years now. He just graduated and will be moving to a high school, but I wanted to reflect on his 2 years there. Excelsior has been the best move I have ever made for him. It was rough at first because of some change in staff and the getting used to a classroom with all ages, but now the staff is a perfect balance, and he eventually adjusted with the help of the teachers and the administrator. The whole “flavor” of the school is very different from public school, but from his testing scores, this school obviously works well. When you walk in, the students are in various forms of study, or they are on the playground interacting with each other, but whatever they are doing, it is much more relaxed and they are a family. There are several forms of disability in the classroom, and the teachers work very well with the students to make the classroom mesh together. The school’s attitude is based on acceptance and approval of and by all the students and teachers. There are more field trips than in a public school, and they work once a month in a local church’s garden who provides food to the shelters. It helps the students to understand service to their fellow human. It was a great experience for my son. If you can get over the “public school” image and give Excelsior a try, I think you will find your child will blossom, and he or she will eventually become much more settled at home. I know mine did and he was severe adhd.

I have my son in this school I am really happy for the progress my son has made since I entered this school, they have an excellent work plan for our children and without a doubt our children learn and succeed in this school, excellent teachers and excellent work plan, Thank you so much Excelsior Academy School

It only took 3 weeks to realize the huge mistake we made in enrolling our son into this "school." If you look at the teacher turn over rate, you can see how unstable this "learning environment" is. The director is great at making his website for his "school" appear to be a wonderful place for children. However, once your child becomes a part of this "school," the ugly reality sinks in. They are extremely unorganized. There is very little parent/teacher communication. Because students of various ages are all in one classroom, there are bullying problems. My son was one of the kids who was bullied by the older boys. The teachers didn't have control of the classroom. We had just moved here and was looking for a small private school for our son who struggles with dyslexia. I was a public school teacher for 12yrs. Because of my experience, it didn't take long for me to realize what a mistake it was to enroll my son into this "school." If you are considering this "school," ask lots of questions. Ask them how long their teachers have taught there and what degree they have obtained. Ask to sit in and observe a day in the classroom. Don't waste a dime on this "school" until you have observed a classroom. I can't believe TEA hasn't shut down this "school!"

I love the fact that my son made more progress in one year in his writing and reading than in 6 year on public school. I recommend this school to any child with learning disability.

My son has severe ADHD and anxiety disorder. He entered his 6th grade year at the public school we were zoned to. He had the most horrible experience! By the time we removed him from the school, he was failing almost all of his classes, he had no desire to participate in the electives he once loved, and he was so anxious he couldn't go a single day without ending up in the nurses office. After doing my research I found Excelsior Academy. We were invited to do a trial day and my son was evaluated to determine his individual needs. The school has small classroom settings and focus on the child as a person not just the academics. My son is now making almost all A's and he is happy to go to school!

I was stressed out during Winter 2014 looking for a school for my daughter. My daughter is 7 years old and formerly attended a school in HISD. The school said they could help her in special education. She was diagnosed with ADHD, had trouble with reading and the school said that she would benefit from a 1:1 setting with behavior modification. The school said that she was not at her academic level and moved her to a behavioral class that was only boys from ages 8 to 11. This was not a conducive environment and my daughter was doing worse; she was stressed out, not learning and remained behind. As a mother, I found Excelsior Academy and saw a difference in the first day of class. She was placed in a class where she felt like she belonged. My daughter is benefiting from individualized attention at Excelsior; the teacher and the staff show they care about their students. They also worked hard to get my daughter on grade level. My daughter is finally happy to go to school each morning. As a parent, I made the monetary and time sacrifice to help my daughter to put her in a private school. It is worth the drive from central Houston to Sugar Land. The tuition is worth every penny.

My daughter struggled with phonics in preschool. Once in kindergarten at a highly rated public school it was very obvious she was behind. The school didn't feel it was a concern yet; however, not addressing it would cause her to fall further behind and contributed to her lack of confidence in school. I got an expert opinion outside the school. It was determined she had the phonetic awareness of a 3 year old. She needed help that her school wasn't providing so I decided to home-school and seek a specialist for reading. She made some improvements but wasn't seeing enough to justify the cost. Looking for other options, I found Excelsior Academy. I was excited about the small class size and individualized approach to teaching. At Excelsior the instruction is tailored to the individual student s need. The teacher customizes curriculum for each child, which allows for self-paced learning. If the student learns the concept then she moves forward or if needed she can continue to review that material. My child made excellent progress and gained confidence at Excelsior. Previously she hated to read but now reads for pleasure!

My daughter was getting so frustrated with traditional private and public school settings that were not able to address her learning needs. In June of 2014 the private school she was attending told us there was nothing they could do for her academically. I cried! I felt I have failed my daughter. Then we found out about Excelsior Academy. My daughter started with the summer program. I love their curriculum and their Educational therapy method is great. They gave my daughter her confidence back. She's no longer afraid of school. In Excelsior Academy, every child is treated as individual, the teaching is tailored to individual need. The students are given individual attention by highly qualified teachers. My daughter's reading, writing and maths levels increased within a short amount of time. Thanks Excelsior Academy for the wonderful work!
