There is clearly more bad staff than good, but the few good ones are what made up the 2 stars instead of 1. The school conditioning/heating system is pretty bad, unequal temperatures in classrooms sometimes severe. I will call them out on this: faculty fails to do things about complaints such as technology malfunctions, etc. I have experienced one of my nice teachers being spoken to rudely from another staff, which disgusted me. The few good teachers deserve more. What these good teachers had compared to bad ones: Caring about each student & getting to know them, accommodating their needs, cares about teaching, gives advice, having actual logical minds and well-educated in not only academics but life-wise. Usually these types of teachers come from tough backgrounds and turn out to be great and successful people who are passionate about teaching. Unfortunately there are more bad teachers than good here, and they need to get evaluated of their teaching & behavior and be replaced with teachers who are not only academically intelligent & engaging but be genuine good, kind people. Some even seem uneducated of basic things and act too authoritarian, stemming from insecurity. I would compare this school to a prison, there is definitely less freedom. This "top-rated" school is for only the perfect sheep who can maintain a 4.0+ gpa; everyone else gets left behind. Don't be sold into the lie, this school will feel like hell if you are someone with needs. They will not accommodate you and only care about money. If majority of others are doing good, why should they waste their time to care about you? The 90% of others will make up for the test scores and graduation rates. If you're perfect, no mental illness or disability and have good grades, this school is fine for you. That's what they only want anyway. Truth being, this is a school that majority wouldn't go to if they had the choice.

I was previously a student here at this establishment. May I say that Springfield Public Schools have failed me all the way since the 7th Grade. If it wasn't for a specific guidance counselor, I would not be writing this message. I was severely depressed and even with doctor's recommendations this school still did not accommodate my needs. I had tried to transfer but was repeatedly shut down, and it wasn't even an idea to them until I decided to drop out. This school made me severely depressed to the point I had to excuse myself for about a month and a half for a mental health leave and receive therapy. I am still in therapy due to the constant fears and memories that place has given me. The teachers drive wedges between students and show very blunt authoritarian power. Some of the faculty and staff i could only explain as administrative bullies. There are very few among the staff that inspire, create, and maintain a positive teaching environment, but most of the staff are nasty and are just collecting a paycheck. If you have an decision into where you send your child for an education do not send them here. And if you do send your child here, please check up on them and make sure everything is fine and they're fine. I could not receive a decent education and I doubt your child will too.

I have found that Dayton has provided a great selection of classes with challenging work. My child is excelling in school and I feel will be very well prepared for university like my friends children that have left this school district to go on to top notch schools like Penn and Harvard.

Great school. Some teachers are touchy, but most are dedicated to their jobs and it shows through their students. Wish the online textbooks were a bit more refined and the administration would pay attention to the infrastructure of the facility, but overall you really can't complain about this school.

Both my kids graduated from Jonathan Dayton. And both went on to great colleges. Good teachers and support.
