"Best Boarding School in the Nation" is how my son put it after he graduated and was asked a few months later about it by a cousin of mine whose daughter is now a residential student there and doing great. My son's social and language disabilities have improved significantly. He is much more independent that I ever thought he would be. Students live at Riverview but can call home daily and with modern technology can keep in touch on-line. Riverview has informed us regarding his triumphs and his missteps. They have viewed all of his mistakes as "teachable moments". They scaffold the learning, so he faces challenges that do not overload his stress capacity. In this way, he can function without a huge amount of anxiety. The staff also helps with socialization as well as academics. When we first came to Riverview, our family was completely centered around him. He now helps plan vacations, cleans the house, calls relatives to stay in touch, and takes care of his own priorities and possessions. Riverview has a plan for their own growth (i.e. vocational programs, employee benefits, and infrastructure) which in turn, is instrumental in the growth of their students. Riverview has helped him move out of his comfort zone and move into a learning zone. We can't thank them enough! The school has incredible teachers and a wonderful environment. Nurturing, caring and people who understand what people need emotionally and socially.

I would rate it at a below 1 if it would allow me to. The outside curbside drop off lady is rude, although the two ladies who stand together are very sweet. Do Not go to send your babies to that school if you want them to be treated correctly. Thank God my son is a 5th grade student there!

Principal just doesn't want parental involvement or volunteers. No school activities, field trips, events like the rest of the counties. No kindergarten graduation or ceremony. No holiday events or fun for the children. The principal is so concerned with getting off state sanction that it's all about work and tests and keeping distractions out, when in actuality, parental involvement and school events, making school fun, is actually key to improving the school. Much of the staff seem unhappy or planning to leave. We are transferring our child out.

Both of my children attend Riverview. This school is an amazing school. The principal and vice principal are absolutely on top of their game! Their communication with me as a parent regarding my children could not be better. My oldest son has special needs and they are in constant communication with me, whether it be by phone or email. Over the past several years we have had teachers we have absolutely been thrilled with, and teachers we have been a little disappointed with - but overall, my children have thrived and we could not have asked for more from the administrators and staff.

The principle at this school has the utmost respect for everyone. Our family is very pleased with the teachers also. However, there is much uncertainty about the lack of respect this schools nurse (who has just started at this school 2014-2015 SY) has for legitimate concerns from us being the parents regarding the safety and well being of our children. The guidance of Riverview's principle who definitely leads as a power of example hopefully rubs off on the new school nurse.
