Middle school is typically challenging. However I consider Salk to be a good middle school. There are a wide variety of electives, clubs and sports for students to choose from. Also the music program is the best compared to other middle schools in the district.

Several times multiple teachers have been playing inappropriate music for the kids. Some teachers have a problem with letting students go to the bathroom when needed and call the parents, me, when they go anyway to avoid an accident. Evolution is taught as fact and when brought up that parents should be made aware of this the principal said it's not school policy. My child that is developmentally delayed got hauled into the office by a police officer for threatening a boy in class with a note about leaving her friend alone. While the words were threatening the child does not fully grasp how others will take this. I don't think this was taken into consideration. Yet when she was being sexually harassed I informed her teacher and later the principle and nothing was done about it. Another one of my kids was continually bullied and assaulted twice on the bus. We were promised the boys would be separated, but a change in seating arrangements never happened. We finally went over to the boys house and spoke with his parents ourself. I think in the future I may just drive my other kids to another school just to avoid this one.

Salk made for an easy transition from elementary school. My daughter received so much support and encouragement from teachers and staff. Academically, socially and athletically she thrived due to the great staff.
