This School is not a 5 star School. I am a Skagway resident and have children enlisted. The Teacher - Student relationships are severely toxic. The Teachers do not assist the Students in succeeding academically and it is all about the Teacher not about the Student. There is zero guidance for students future after Skagway High School. Kids graduate with no plan and just loom around town. It is very sad and the School facilities can do better but they focus on their social status gain and it is not about the Student. The only reason this School is 5 stars is because they get off testing the kids. Please save your student and do not enroll them in Skagway School. The town is too small and political and your student will receive a better education online or a different School. I hope this helps and parents can see past the 5 star rating.- Skagway Resident

There are some great teachers at this school. The problem is retention of said great teachers. A lot of bullying takes place with little to no accountability. Communication with the school is sub par. There is a heavy focus on basketball, which is great for those who play the sport, but leaves little to be desired for those who don’t. If your child isn’t part of the “cool kids club” they will be miserable.

Academically. Great school, great kids! The community experience as well as low student/teacher ratio create an atmosphere of possibility that is exciting and inspiring. Teachers, parents and students of Skagway need to continue to support each other and encourage excellence in all things academic and athletic.

No Crime, Caring Community and Faculty, low student/teacher ratio, wonderfully happy students, excellent Basketball, Volleyball, Wrestling, Cross Country, programs.. ....the problem is that accademically, average is the goal. A's are given freely and bright students are allowed to skate. College Prep is poor. My rating is on the accademics rather than the entire school experience.
