Sikeston is a smaller community, so the school system plays a large part. My children have not only received a good education at Sikeston Public Schools, they learned how to live in the "real" world with children from all walks of life. The teachers are invested in these kids. They support them in the classroom, on the football field, in church, etc. There is an enormous amount of community support for SPS here in Sikeston. The goal of the high school is to prepare students for whichever path they need to take whether that be college, technical school, the military, or employment. The students who do go to college, are prepared. Each graduating class has several children scoring 30+ on the ACT. Overall, it's a great school system. It is a school system that puts the students first!

Can't say enough about the teachers and administrators at Sikeston Public Schools. They care about our kids and are easy to communicate with if there are questions. I have a daughter that graduated in 2012 and a son who will soon graduate SHS.

This school system is more worried about the "wealthy" students and the kids who play sports. If your child has a mental disability such as ADHD, they consider your kid to "not be college material" and tell you that they have other options for "those" kids. I was told in an I.E.P. meeting that my child was not college material and they were discussing how they handle other kids instead of what they are going to do to help my child. My son went to Sikeston schools all of his life and after this we have moved. I would not recommend Sikeston schools to anyone! They are good until you hit Junior High. After 6th grade, you will want to move too. The Junior High Principle, J. Sullivan, doesn't like kids, she doesn't know what IMPACT is and requested that I, the parent, explain to her what a State Wide Parental Advocacy group was. If a Principle doesn't know about the state wide assistance, then they sure don't need to be working in education. Plus, for them to assume that a kid with ADD or ADHD cannot make it to college, they should be fired!! I contacted Sikeston's Special Education Director about my concerns and nothing was done. This school system is a joke!!!
