This is my son's third year at this school. He was in the pre-K, then K, and now 1st grade.. We almost sent him to private school, but I am glad we gave this school a chance. He is so far having a great experience. He loves going to school and was reading by the end of kindergarten and doing basic math. He is in first grade and comes home and tells use about new things he learned every day and already he is working on math problems addition and subtraction first week in. There is daily communication with teacher via his agenda and they use online apps for additional communication. Meals and supplies were provided this year which help make things easy and less stressful for parents. The school also provides special ed services. They offered him speech therapy while he was in pre-K, before I even realized there was an issue. There are many community engagement events during the year and the school. He as two teachers in class and the class ratio is good. There is a focus on children demonstrating "pawsitive" behavior to improve their emotional intelligence as well

We have had a wonderful experience at TA Lowery. My first-grade son loves going to school. His teacher and aide communicate very well with us and let us know about his progress and what we can work on together at home to continue his progression- which is important because getting information out of a 7 year old can be difficult! The school administration has been great as well. Very professional and attentive. We had a minor issue with a kid on the bus, and I almost didn't even mention it because of how minor it was, but the school took it very seriously and circulated the issue with the transportation department, teacher, and parent of the student. I think the school has really improved over the last few years with the new principal. I've gone on field trips and to school programs and can see the school promoting diversity and inclusion. They also do a lot of school-wide service initiatives, like toy drives at Christmas, animal-shelter supply drives, and selling lollipops during lunch for Relay for Life.

I would like to take this opportunity to recognize the outstanding Administration you have at T. A. Lowery Elementary School. I am so thankful that my children attend this school. They all LOVE their school and the Administration and Staff. I know my children are well cared for and in good hands at T.A.Mrs. Martin is a true Leader in all sense of the word. She leads with humility, integrity and grace. She is very dedicated and caring and truly inspires and motivates the children of WV who are lucky enough to attend her school. You can truly tell that every employee at T. A. Lowery Elementary School is happy to be there and really, truly cares about the children and their educational needs.

The 14:1 student to teacher ratio is a lie. Our son is in a first grade class of 26 students with one teacher and no teacher’s aide. He has been through 6 teachers this year. We had a good experience with kindergarten, but 1st grade has been an absolute nightmare.

I never really had issues until recently. My daughter has been hating going to school and I couldnt put my finger on why...until the field trip I attended with her. Not only was she the only child not partnered up with a buddy by her teacher, but we were placed in a group where the girls refused to play or even acknowledge her. She was on the brink of tears towards the end as was I. My child is mixed and I can’t help but to think the worst...why was she not partnered and left to feel awkward and why do these girls feel comfortable telling her she can’t play with them and pushing her? I will be speaking with the school. The culture I saw of isolation is not ok with me. Teachers must emphasize inclusion and no racism should ever be tolerated. No student should ever feel “alone” at the age of 8. Character building is happening, it starts from home and ends in school. She is the sweetest girl and I just can’t believe what I saw.

The school has really turned the corner this year. You can tell the bar has been raised and everyone is stepping up to meet it. I highly recommend this school.

Where to begin. We have consistently dealt with teachers who sling insults and attack our child's character. This year we have made no less than six calls to the school to discuss issues stemming from the teachers. Everyone from the librarian to the front office staff have been heard by myself commenting on the studenrs. Between the eye rolling, the lack of motivation to get educational help for our child, and disinterested teachers, we are thrilled to almost be done with this school. We do not recommend it. Period.

T.A. Lowery is a great school! Our teacher is top notch. The principal is kind, caring, and compassionate. The office staff learns who you are by your first name. The kitchen has tailored a meal plan that works for my boys. The librarian is very sweet. Paula, the school nurse is just great at what she does. The prek program is wonderful. Mrs. Walls, my sons Kindergarten teacher was very welcoming. The school is just overall a place of warmth and comfort. -The Millers
