Even as a straight A student this school is so hard to be in. The teachers show a high amount of apathy. The students are way too loud. People cut in line during lunch. Not to mention pink food. The computers they supply overheat and shut down. The best program is ccp which is when they send you to another school. The no cell phone policy was sparked after last year there were too many fights under #shelbyhigh. A new student recently got permanently suspended after he got fed up and threatened to shoot up the school(not the first time this year). We can't use our cell phones even at lunch. Last year there was a kid with a gun in the bus lot. Bomb treat this year. I genuinely do better in college than high-school got 100 in a class last quarter. I'm genuinely stuck on what to do. The principal reminds me of my script dad. One teacher kicked a kid out from class for laughing.

This school is absolutely horrendous. The medal detectors, bag searches, and no cellphones policy, I understand. But it's stupid considering they put their money towards incriminating us instead of putting a/c in the gym first. Im also having trouble understanding why it's necessary to ban phones at lunch, our only free time of the day. We are not allowed to stand up and move to a different table in the lunch room to talk to anyone. Regardless if we were sitting alone, once you're seating you're not allowed to move. They shut down our lions den and took away our hour lunch for 25 minutes. This 25 minutes includes going to the lunch room, going through line, finding a seat, and eating. Which there is hardly enough time for. I've witnessed many students not even finishing their lunch because they simply did not have enough time. We are also not allowed to bring food out of the lunch room for any reason, so many kids are going hungry. Our lunches has been split into 4 separate lunches, which means a lot of us are seated in a lunch without friends. We simply sit there at the lunch, staring at the tables because we don't have friends to socialize with and cannot use our phones without being punished. It feels as though prisoners have more freedom than Cleveland county High School students. When I have tried to address these issues with the principal, he asked me if I "thought we deserved freedoms at school" and then then I was promptly dismissed me by turning his back to me. I feel as though no students opinions and feelings are being heard. Maybe the people who put these rules in place have forgotten what it's like to be young, to be a teenager. Coming to school everyday, being expected to behave like robots. IE: no talking, no interactions, no phones. This makes for a very miserable existence in every school day. Which in my opinion is going to cause more altercations, therefore defeating the entire purpose of all the new rules.

My daughter is in the 2015 graduating class from Shelby High. She got an awesome education. She was surrounded by caring and supportive teachers. If your child chooses to get an education, they have EVERY opportunity to get an amazing one here. They have championship sports teams, incredible band and orchestra, and amazing theater department. She will be heading off to college in the fall with 18 college credit hours under her belt with the AP and CCP classes that were offered. The number on this school does not reflect the potential the school has. Keep in mind, your child can go to school at any school no matter the school rating, but it all depends on two things. What your child wants to get out of school, and what the teachers are giving. This is a large building filled with caring and supportive staff!
