[Skyline Graduate] Current Jackson County Schools Superintendent Kevin Dukes ran Skyline High School like a Prison Internment Camp. I’m certain the entire county is now run the same way. I removed my children from Skyline years ago. The Jackson County School Board, and Kevin Dukes in particular believes that school “officials” (not servants – officials) have more authority over your kids than you do. A student at Skyline is treated as if they have no protections under the Constitution. They are nothing more than a number that can be counted for Alabama State money. Go to the channel 19 (WHNT) website and find the video of Kevin Dukes telling the WHNT reporter “You need to go now” three times. That is also his attitude with parents. He is all powerful and you should realize that. You’re only the parent. It’s all about sports at Skyline. The reason, sports brings in revenue. It’s a money maker. The other thing Skyline is all about is attendance. Snow storm coming, or potential tornado, don’t expect your child to be sent home until they have been there long enough to count it as a full day. In fairness, some of the elementary teachers are pretty good, they try hard. By the time you get to the High School teachers, they have given up. They have tenure and they do not care about your child. Don’t expect your child to graduate from Skyline with anything resembling a proper High School education.

I attended Skyline for 12 years. I agree that there could be improvements in the curriculum as with many of the schools. Let's not forget that the communities and parents play a very important role in the level of education a child receives. My work moved us to another city which is a metro area but due to the lack of emphasis on higher learning we choose to pay an out of city fee to enroll our son in a school that excels in higher learning. Parents need to join together and demand from the school board to raise the bar for an improved curriculum. I've toured many of the schools when choosing my sons school and in comparison Skyline is not bad.

My children moved to Skyline High School last year. I have seen so many improvements in their school work seen they have been there. One of the most important parts of being there the kids love it and are learning alot more.
