Edgemont Elementary is a safe, incredible, and excellent school and I feel grateful that my kids have the privilege of attending it. Having watched some of the changes over the course of the past six years, I’m impressed with the leadership and entire staff’s dedication to continuous improvement. I’m often in awe and inspired every time one of my children’s teachers goes above and beyond to help them grow not only academically, but emotionally and mentally too. I’m watching my little people becoming awesome humans as they attend school everyday in the care of people who take just as much interest in their well-being as I do. I'm compelled to give a huge shout out and say THANK YOU!!!

I am heartbroken to have to write a poor review of this school. The teachers that we have interacted with have been exemplary but the school administration - specifically the principal - is reprehensible. My son has a congenital illness that is life threatening however we have wanted him to have as much of a normal childhood as can be which means public school, normal friends and as many activities and fulfillment as he wants.Unfortunately when he is ill, it often leads to an extended stay at Primary Childrens Hospital until he is well enough to return home. This is a hardship for all of us; he hates being in the hospital and time taken off from work is only paid if there is vacation time to expend in addition to caring for our three other children. This is not a minor health issue: he was LifeFlighted to PCMC before he was a year old and is on daily medication (besides having a standby crisis injection in case of emergency). We don't let him stay home for a sniffle or cough and ALWAYS get authorization from one of his physicians when he does have to be out of school. We also don't keep him out of school on a whim or a family event (which we always schedule around school). Also, because of his condition he has a learning disability which means he needs some educational assistance which his teachers have been magnificent about providing.Unfortunately his illnesses have resulted in his missing 10% of the school year and so his principal has made it clear that if he misses any more school, he may fall into the category of "compulsory education" which means the principal will see that we're taken to court. It's plain that her concern is not our sons education but using threats to strong arm us into making sure our son is in attendance so the school will not lose a percentage of funding. We had so hoped that the neighborhood school where all of his friends go would be accepting and able to provide for his needs but it is becoming apparent that this is not the case. The rating from "GreatSchools" is also an indicator that this school specifically falls well below the average which means we are not sure about sending our other children there as they achieve grade school age. We are thinking seriously about looking at other options for our childrens' education.

I was a formal student at this school and i would of say my experence here is ok the school does have anitbullying issues in fact i walked by the other day to see signs of bullying but in my time there bullying wasnt common but it was big enough to become a issue the school has a great technological learning advantage and has good potential in that subject also the school may need to hire a few better teachers there but overall the teachers where great my last teacher in 6th grade mrs. Hakanson was a awesome teacher who did a exelent job and actually loved and cared about the students succes there where many other teachers like that but like always there is the few teachers the students disliked the school does have great advantage in its emergency care the last time i saw it the school has acces to defibulators and emergency first aid i do not know if anybody is currently medically trianed thoughbut overall i found my experience in this school ok on average it has many pros but it has its cons too
