Great teachers and administration who truly have a passion for what they do and make the best of the resources they're given. I graduated in 2009, went on to attend Duke University, and was absolutely able to keep up with the students there in no small part due to the great preparation I received at SHS.

This school has a new principle and I think he is doing an amazing job. My daughter is thriving here in both academics and extra-curricular activities. The choir instructor is amazing! It is really great that all of the students are issued chrome books and the curriculum and teachers we have experienced have been awesome. My only concern is for at risk students who attend this school. There have been 2 suicides at the school this year so I have concerns about the effectiveness of the counseling/mental health resources available.

I understand that this school has some budget constraints and some societal challenges, but I am not a fan of how this school tackles these problems. The principal is from the alternative school, and in my opinion, has gone overboard in her attempt to curb the problem. The result has been a stifling approach to social functions, one in which my child was wrongly singled out for something she did not do. It completely ruined her high school experience, after that my child refused to go to school sponsored events as a result. The PTA's idea of a "prom" was held in a bank building lobby, because they couldn't agree on a decent venue in town, despite the fact that they charged top dollar for it. And that was common. Expect to be paying for a lot out of pocket since this school district is very poor, and in the high school finds creative ways of milking every activity for profit. Lastly, those who took online coursework as an alternative to going to the overcrowded school everyday were denied the right to graduate with the class, and were NOT notified of this when they enrolled for the classes. In short, I felt my child was robbed of a good high school experience.
