Ms. Bun is my son's teacher. She is young, full of energy, and has a heart for teaching. I love the fact that my son trusts her so much! Teachers here provide parents and students with their work cell. Students can text or call from early in the morning until late evening. Ms. Bun has build such a rapport with my son that once he found out his surgery date, he contacted her via telephone at around 7am to inform her! I didn't even know about it until he advised me that I need not to inform her because he already did. He also disclosed to me that Ms. Bun comforted him and helped decrease his anxiety about the surgery hi sharing her experience of getting the same type of surgery in the past. Here the most touching part of the story, which made me want to cry. After he received the surgery at Kaiser Oakland and he was calm and alert again, he asked me to drive him to the school so he can see Ms. Bun and tell her that he was fine. I took him to the school, but she was teaching a lesson, plus he didn't have enough energy to walk to the class. I texted her instead to inform her about the surgery. She was happy everything went well. Also, my son doesn't like reading so much, but she has helped him find the love of reading by helping him find books that are interesting to him. His writing and reading has improved. He also likes Mr. Ng, his math teacher, very much. His math has also improved. My son is also in the after school program. It’s the most affordable after school program ever! We paid $200 for the entire year! Initially, we were expecting to pay $200 a week, but to our surprise, the school is not about collecting money! They are about collecting enough to make the program assessable and to provide snacks and activities for the students. I love that it’s all the way until 6pm. I’m a working parent and having an after school program for my son is excellent for my work life. I trust the staff that are caring for him. They’re always doing something fun! They made pizzas, rice crispy, danced the day away, and sang awesome songs! Oh right! They also played musical instruments and build amazing things out of stem toys. I also wanted to comment on the principal, Ms. Roberto. she is more than amazing. She is a wonderful leader. Young, friendly, personable, and smart! I can tell she truly cares about the students and the family she serves.

Awful, I have transferred two of my students out, and the other is pending. Iam completely disgusted with the administration.

My experience has been nothing but positive. I have so much respect and admiration for the school staff that it is a bit difficult to put into words.

This is a safe school where the teachers and admin are truly focused on the whole child. I am surprised by the negative reviews. My experience with staff has always been respectful, and I know many parents feel the same. As for the issues with the wait list--lots of parents want their kids in this school because it is a great school. The lottery, as I understand does preference local kids. There are a few kids from Oakland because they either had to move to Oakland for some reason, or they have family at the school (middle school or high school) already and years ago KSA didn't have wait lists so kids from Oakland got into the school because there was room.

I am a KIPP Summit proud parent. I have an 8th grade kid and recent graduated that is now at KIPP KING HIGH SCHOOL next door. Both of my kids started from 5th grade and am planning to enroll my youngest daughter here too. I choose this school for my kids because of the mission and compromise of the school to its students, parents, and community. Teachers are highly educated and work hard every day to prepare and educate new generations. This school is not for everybody but for those, parents and kids, that are compromise with themselves to to dream, visualize and succeed. I can just talk for my experience and am so glad that I have the opportunity to have my kids educate and prepare here for a better future. Kids here talk about college and universities, have ambitions, and think out of the box.

I have worked at KSA for few years now, and love the school. I can't imagine working for another school. KSA truly puts kids first. It can be a demanding school to work at because we all work so diligently to support our students, but that is part of why I love it. The staff works hard to meet students' needs and to ensure that lessons are both engaging and rigorous. I have looked at other schools in the area, and there are not many other schools that I would send my child to. I would not hesitate to send my child to KSA. The school staff is dedicated, organized, highly competent, caring, and charismatic. KSA is a school that believes in the potential of all students.

As a teacher on the inside, I agree this school is not as good as it seems. The admin puts on a good front but it is a disorganized mess. Certain teachers are given preferential treatment and the discipline policy changes almost daily. Sure, there are no office referrals of suspensions this year, but we aren't allowed to. Just keep the kid in the room and let the other 32 students suffer. When students misbehave, the admin and said teachers always have an excuse therefore no consequence is given to guide this child to learn acceptable behavior. When teachers are stressed, there is no support. We have had two wonderful teachers sadly leave us this year because of the stress. Both were dedicated and enthusiastic and burned out far too fast. It's not because of the kids-its the dysfunction of certain staff members and the administration. I commend the two teachers who have left or are leaving before Christmas-good for them for standing up for wanting an hour or two with their own children or friends at night. I guarantee, I am out of this building as soon as I find something else. I would NEVER send my children here. EVER!!!
