Graystone Elementary is a great school . The teachers and whole community within school are so invested in the students. The HSC (home and school club) always does an amazing job to add in additional programs, events and extra classes for the students. There are wonderful programs like Project Cornerstone, Music, Science/Steam and so much more.

I can't say enough good things about this school. Most of the teachers have been here forever with very low turn over. They are so invested in the students. The academic expectations are high but I have see them be flexible individual even per subject and make acommadations for stuggling or advanced students. The parent body always steps up and volenteers and donates so the HSC(PTA)is able to afford extra classes for the students- Art, Science/Steam, Music(weekly), and Recess 101(PE/couch- full type staff) on top of everything the district provides. Its a hard elementry school to beat and its why we moved here. Thank you graystone!

The parent and teacher community is great and my child enjoys every day. Their arts, pe, music and addl. science programs are great and a bonus which can be attributed to the participation from the wider parent community.

Teachers are traditional and use outdated methods in their instruction. I truly believe they are harming students using such outdated methods. They are not inclusive or aware of issues children deal with. Their go to punishment is taking away recess it publicly insulting children with behavior charts. Students are generally kind and there isn’t a lot of bullying. Students seem to be having fun at school despite the lack of good teacher.

My son currently attends Graystone. I really like how they have Art, Music, and Science programs - and also a P.E. program. I also like how the school offers Project Cornerstone. My son likes to stay after school to play 4-square or basketball. I enjoy observing the interactions between the kids on the playground after school. The kids generally are very well behaved. When I was a kid, I don't think we behaved anywhere near this nicely. The teachers I've interacted with have been impressive. The new principal seems to be a really good one. And the entire community (school employees, families, etc.) seems to be very close and supportive. I also like the events the school holds (movie nights, Pumpkin Bust, etc.).

The Principal Shumway needs to be replaced. Ever since she's joined the score for the school has only gone downhill. The amount of verbal bullying going on in the yard right under her nose is appalling. It is impossible that she is unaware of the verbal bullying and name calling but she just doesn't care as she herself is not ethnically sensitive. The micro-aggressions towards students of color are widespread starting at the very top. The Principal disproportionately disciplines students of color over white students. The leadership should be changed to enforce more active anti-racist policies.

The Principal, Ms. Shumway, is wonderful - caring, energetic, involved and gets to know the students, helpful to new families, and she has a great team under her, including awesome teachers! The recent test scores reflect the great job that the teachers are doing! The students overall seem happy and caring, and there is a nice sense of community among the parents. 2 after-school programs on site for working parents until 6 pm - Math Enrichment and CDC, plus many offerings for extra curricular activities immediately after school.

The school has so much to offer, yes it has its faults, but overall a solid school with a great foundation.

The principal is wonderful, and the majority of the teachers alright, but the "yard duties" are complete idiots. They do not respond to student complaints, and are very ignorant. The school can do very little to curve bullying, which is seemingly everywhere in the school. A sizable portion of the school's mentally disabled are in mainstream classrooms, and do not succeed academically or socially in their classes, most are ostracized and bullied to depression (same with much of the schools mainstream population). The parent community their is very ignorant and do not care about the bullying (in fact, the school's cornerstone program's parent members usually have children who bully, thus only worsening the situation..

Lucky to live in Almaden and have such a great local school. My son did private K-4, but we decided to go "local" for 5th grade last year. I only wish we had done it sooner. Graystone cares about their kids and the parents are very involved which makes it a nice community environment.

Graystone has a great principal and caring and involved teachers. This is all wrapped in a community that cares about quality of education and is not overly obsessed with academic performance. There is a nice balance of academic excellence and social development- with programs to support. Many great schools get there because of test scores, at Graystone social development is as valued as academic achievement - which I think is core to elementary education. This is the time to love to learn. Our experience has been that when working as team (parent, teacher, administration) Graystone works excellent.

For me, an excellent school doesn't mean they are good academically but how the school can solve the problems what parents face at their school. I tthink Graystone is one of them who really care about your kids and want to listen the parents' concerns.
