The two stars are for those few teachers in the school, but this isn’t the best school. Before the day of distance learning many students still left some things in their locker cuz they didn’t know distance learning would last so long. Well unfortunately we still haven’t got the stuff back after we graduated now got contacted. So when school started again, we went back to marina hoping to get the stuff back. The staffs told us that they already trashed our stuff and gave our stuff to new students. In my opinion they are very irresponsible. The principal also has a bad attitude...

Marina Middle School has been wonderful for my son. He attended a very chaotic charter elementary school and the change in his academic capacity and emotional wellbeing after switching to Marina was unprecedented. He went from being a mediocre student to an A+ student, he joined the basketball team, made tons of friends, and became invested in his education. Marina Middle School makes it very easy for parents to follow along with their child's homework assignments on line, which allowed us to support our son in getting his work done. All of his teachers were warm and very communicative, and the administration is exceptional. Ms. Daws, who was promoted from Vice-Principal to Principal this year, has a unique ability to understand and connect with the students. I cannot recommend Marina Middle School more highly and feel exceptionally lucky that my son is a student there.

Well organized, strong teachers, technology used in the classrooms, lots of lunch-time clubs, student council, sports teams and afterschool program run by the YMCA. The school counselors are nice and their are lots of adults walking around the school. My son is in 6th Grade and I feel he is going to be well prepared for high school.

I don't recommend this school for your child. This school hire a teacher with no experience at teaching and Do not know how to control the students in class. The students just takes over and the teacher is not able to teach. My daughter had a very disappointing 7th grade 2014-2015. As a parent I asked to have my daughter to be remove from that class but they did not allow it. The principal doesn't care also when a student has a problem and she just ignores it. My daughter always mark late if she just walked in just on time after the bell rings which is not very fair. Some teachers do care.

Terrible. Within months my perfectly normal child became depressed. I had no idea how bad the environment was until I came to speak to a teacher. For three weeks this teacher was unable to tell me what assignment my daughter missed when she was sick. Once I entered the school, I understood my daughter's desperation and also why this teacher could not perform her job. While I was waiting at the secretary's window, a girl was yelling obscenities down the hall, words one would usually only hear from a mentally ill homeless person. It didn't seem to create too much stir, even though there were teachers around, as if this was within the norm. Then I went to my daughter's class, it was an absolute chaos. The teacher could not instruct, at least three children were yelling at her different requests at the same time. They were getting up and walking around without reason. It seemed that most have some mental health issues. It reminded me of a psychiatric ward at an institution I used to work at. It was unbelievable. It was distressing to spend just five minutes in this class. It was mid-period, so the children weren't just settling down. My daughter told me that it gets much worse.

I love that my kids are able to attend their neighborhood school and that they feel safe and happy. Someday as adults, they will go out to the Marina with friends and point to that beautiful art deco building in the Marina District and say, "I went to school there", just like true native San Franciscans. They are super happy, have a lot of friends from many different backgrounds, and really enjoying middle school life. After school, they are able to study at the library with friends, or go have a smoothie on Chestnut St, or go watch a game in the gym or Moscone Park. They would not be able to experience this if the school were located in an unsafe neighborhood.

My daughter attends 6th grade at this school. she's doing well in her academics earning in high honors and principal. Since's my daughter started at marina, Aug 2013, there has been fights at this school. Some of the students don't obey and the teachers are not as strict. Some of the teachers r nice and some don't have time to discuss about their class work or grades during class time n my daughter have to wait til after school to talk to the teachers. The teachers needs to communicate more with their students. As for friends, they need to be careful who u make friends with.

Our great middle school just had over 50 graduating students accepted to Lowell High, one of the best high schools in the nation, and the best public high school in the City. That is almost 20% of our 8th graders. Go Penguins! Great job!

6th Grade has been great so far! Marina has lots of caring teachers and staff who are focused on getting our kids up and running in the 6th grade -- and preparing them for high school. Changing classes, lockers, homework, new friends, afterschool are all exciting new experiences and the school has been supportive of our child's transition. Excited about our next few years at Marina.

The school has improved over the years, most of all the last 3 years my son attended. The students that applied to Lowell and other high ranking school has been admitted and their grades in ACT and SAT are high. The students seem to get along with each other.

Seems as if most of this reviews were written by Marina students, which is fine by me. It would be better, however, if they knew how to spell. They should teach typing in Middle school prior to teaching computer classes. The quality of education has depreciated since I attended.

My child's teachers were accessible and helpful. However, hardly a week passed without having substitute teachers in one or more of my child's classes, with seemingly little instruction accomplished. One of the students said the teacher remarked near the end of the school year that she had two more absenses to use before the year was over. I have moved my child to a different middle school for next year where I've been assured by staff and parents that substitute teachers are seldom used, and where there appears to be a lot more emphasis placed on diversity and acceptance.

Marina Middle School is a great place for learning and school. You wont regret going there at all, teachers there have a understandable way for students to learn. there are lots of teachers that graduated from lowell there teaching in Marina. its also a huge school that can fit lots of students and the new principal is a great leader of the school. i just graduated from marina and i dont want to leave because its such a warm school just like home. pick marina middle school as your middle school and you will have a wonderful experience in your life that you will never forget. trust me. :)
