I went to this school and still am. I am not in the highest grades but I've been here for 4 school years. The education is amazing, but the food is a little on the not so good side. Each classroom is fun and amazing, Fun learning Websites like Lexia Core5, and most importantly... AMAZING AWESOME TEACHERS!!! My mom was going to enroll me in the Preschool-Kinder Program but she found the Ericson. I've been here since Kindergarten and absolutely love the learning! This school is amazing! (School Food isn't too good but Trix Yogurt and breadsticks are really good)

My daughter's first grade teacher was wonderful, cared about the students a lot, especially those struggling in reading or specific areas. It was a very challenging year for teachers, parents, and students with the pandemic but the kids made good progress. Principal is supportive and responsive. Overall, we are grateful for this school community.

I think parents should note that class sizes are actually closer to 30 kids per one teacher, at this school and at many of the elementary schools in San Diego Unified School District. I'm not sure how they determine that the student to teacher ratio is 22:1, but the classes are much, much bigger.

I have great experience with Ericson. I am impressed with the Curriculum and learning tools that Mrs Eden have for her class. She keeps parents updated on kids academic, social and behavior skills. Ms Israel is a great Principal and really cares for kids well being and growth. She is very approachable and takes time to connect with parent community and address any concern to meet kids need. I gained great confidence and confidence in Ericson under Ms Israel administration.

We were a new family to Ericson this year. We have a first grader and she had not attended kindergarten here. I was worried about transition and academics but neither have been a problem! Before school even began, they held a school wide open house with meet and greets for each classroom, they also handed out ice cream for the kids! It was the best opportunity to ease our worries. They host many family focused events and while parking is always a nightmare, the school environment is safe and welcoming. They offer an onsite after school facility, options for after school programs such as sports, drawing, or music; and they have physical education, music, and a beautiful library! We were to have landed at Ericson! Good staff, great teachers, and a Principal that really connects with her community.

We've been extremely happy with Ericson. Kindergarten through 3rd grade have music instruction with a music teacher which is not the case with all schools in the district. Lots of after school activities offered optionally including music, dance, drawing, chess, sports, etc. The teachers are dedicated and very experienced. GATE teachers Mrs. Tran and Mr. Barham are just outstanding - it's incredible the amount of personal time they put into the curriculum and instruction to enrich the experience of their students. But we've seen that in other teachers as well. I would recommend working with teachers in volunteering and supporting your child. My kids have thrived here and will have fond memories of this place for the rest of their lives. The student body seems to come from all walks of life and the diversity was truly enriching for my children. We like the principal, she's been open to all our input regarding the school and very willing to work with us regarding any issues or concerns we may have. The staff have been friendly and efficient here too. Overall, a sweet, friendly, low-key school environment with solid academics although I would always advise you to keep on top of your child's learning and not rely on the school (any school) to keep an eye on your child's progress the way you as a parent would.

We've moved here 3 yrs ago, at first, I was doubting the school district, as well as it being an old school (unlike all the new ones). But honestly, we had great school years and great experience with all the teachers! (mrs.cummins being the best, but just retired). Having a new Principle (Mrs Barbara Is.) I do see some changes. For example, last year's Culture Fair, it was more organized, and well coordinated, it served a "purpose". And especially this year, I see the Principle is introducing more after school programs , that is terrific! The children need those type of program to explore & learn. In addition, a new seminar teacher came on board, Mrs Tran, and so far, she seems promising with the year's agenda already listed out. I can't wait to see the children's accomplishment. Overall, it's a good school with a high API score.

My child had Ms. Baits as her kinder teacher for 2013-2014. Ms. Baits was very responsive regarding my child's academic needs. She is very kind and I appreciate that she would take the time to provide guidance. Ms. Baits also put on a great graduation ceremony for the kinders. I wish Ericson would have taken on the responsibility of hosting the kinder graduation with cap & gown, etc. It is something many 1st time parents are looking forward to at the end of kinder year. Nevertheless, Ms. Baits hosted a great ceremony for the children and the parents. Thanks you!

Top 3 Things You Should Know About This School 1. Kids are being thrown to the wolves My student comes home not knowing how to do his homework. I don't think it is the child's fault. There is only one teacher for 30 students and hardly any 1-to-1 interaction. I once went through my student's schoolwork to discover he did not know how to count coins! 2. Teachers are terrible communicators At almost every open house, teachers make an empty promise to be available to parents and keep them up to date. Yet, they always fail to update the homework schedule or email me back. After a busy day, I do not want to play guessing games with my student! Teachers at this school resort to making their own website and later abandoning it. Stop playing web designer! Use Dropbox, Wordpress, Google Products, etc. to post a homework schedule and copies online. Post in advance! 3. Parents have to pick up the slack I had to teach my third grader how to write a paragraph, where to place commas, and what an outlier is. I had to buy a book and teach him reading comprehension skills, so that he can score better on standardized tests. Overall, I am a better teacher than the one he learns from at this school.

My daughter is in her second year at Ericson and for the most part it has met her needs. The only issue I have had is in communication between administrators and parents. She was transferred into a new class early in the year with zero notice. I picked her up and she was upset that she would be leaving her teacher. It would have been nice to have a bit of notice to prepare her for the change...six year olds do not like surprises!

Last year I would have given this school 5 stars, this year (2014) I am only giving it 3 stars. The principal really sets the tone of the school. Unfortunately this year we got a new principal and vp. It is obvious she is inexperienced. Both the principal and vp are rarely seen on campus during school hours. If you have a problem/concern they just talk in circles and don't help the situation. With new administration there is obviously going to be a learning curve the first year. I hope next year will be better or we will look for another school.

We had an amazing kindergarten experience, with Ms. Downs providing an excellent learning environment. She was caring, attentive, and provided supplemental learning opportunities based on each child's strengths and weaknesses. The only reason this school did not get 5 stars is because there is definitely room for improvement. Communication between the school and parents could be more effective. We also found that events were not organized very well.

We have had our 3 kids in this school since my oldest was in kinder. She is now going into 5th. We have had some EXCELLENT teachers and some decent ones and one bad experience. Even with a bad teacher experience, the principal is accessible and very easy to work with and she went out of her way to accommodate our wants and needs. There has been an excellent music program which so many schools are missing today. There seems to be strong parent involvement and a supportive teachers team. would definitely recommend.

My son goes to school here and he completed his kindergarten and 1st standard here. we were extremely lucky to get Mrs White and Mrs Fitzgibbon as his teachers. I was really amazed to see the kind of efforts they put in creating an all round personalities . The school starting from principal , vice principal and all other functionaries put in a lot of effort in running the school well. We have been really pleased and would highly recommend the school .
