i am not fond of this school. My daughter is picked on, staff doesn't even notice someone gave her a black eye on recess. She's made fun of in class, the front desk lady seems new to the job? I don't often contact the school but if a concerned parent calls and gets brushed off... to me that's a bad sign. This school is beautiful but lacks organization and procedures that keep the kids safe and put the parents minds at ease. As a single parent who works... the last thing I want to worry about is my child's safety at school.

Harritt is a great school! The Spanish Immersion option is wonderful and this year, 2014-2015, they've brought back the English option.

Harritt has always had a Spansih/English dual language program. Two years ago, a new school was built in the vecinity of Harritt. With this change, Harritt became the only school-wide dual language school in Salem. This was a very exciting change and has brought the whole school even closer together. This dual language program continues to Straub Middle School and West Salem High School. On top of this, Harritt's enrollment went from 555 to 300. Because of this change in enrollment, the state has not issued a school report card for Harritt. Nevertheless, Harritt's performance on state tests is comparable to other area schools and all their students end up learning Spanish and English. Because of this special program, many families chose Harritt; Harritt has over 100 in-District transfers. Families are very committed to the school. They drive from all over town and even from neighboring towns. This commitment shows in a vibrant and motivated parent club. At Harritt, parents are esteemed contributors to their children's education. Overall, my wife and I feel Harritt is the best school in Salem. It helps us raise our children bilingual.
