As a parent it is always nerve wracking placing your child in the care of other people. I have heard negative things about this school, but words cannot describe how bad things actually are. The teachers have no control over the middle school and the only ones to blame are administration. Punishment is all over the place and there is no structure for punishing negative behavior. Learning is made increasingly difficult for students due to teachers either constantly leaving or being consistently disrupted by the students. Teachers are not supported by administration, especially when a child of interest is up for punishment. Essentially administration has a group of kids who can do whatever they want due to their parent's status in the community. I reach out often for answers just to be given the run around. Board meetings have been nothing less than concerning and it does not look like this school is trending upwards.

Dysfunction is the only word that can fully describe this school. Everything in a school starts at the top and unfortunately the top of this school is where the dysfunction begins. Administration here fails to see their biases and this has a direct impact on the students. The chief school administrator is from the area and has personal connections to many parents outside the school. This leads to some students receiving special treatment and administration sweeping incidents under the rug. As someone who visited the school frequently to work with the students, I have witness and experienced racism, disrespect, and inexcusable behavior towards myself and students. In any other school district, these incidents would have been dealt with as soon as they happened. However, because the guilty parties have family connected to administration, these incidents are swept under the rug. The system here is not working and yet no one wants to do anything about it. Test scores and enrollment are dropping and I would be suprised if this school was open five years from now.

With being a student at the school I can say that this school is falling apart. The teachers are extremely biased. They have their favorites and thats that. The punishments at the school are beyond acceptable. Something so simple will get you written up with no explanation and given a detention. I remember back when this school was fun and we had after school activities. Now its just what they want us to do. The teaching methods of this school are horrible. Learning is no longer fun and is a waste of time. If they want a good school they should change their whole teaching methods. The assemblies are trash. We have no fun with them like we used to. The water fountains are just moldy and disgusting. And how they are filled with slurs on the walls and there is constant trash everywhere. We hardly have any towels as they forget to replace them. The lunches are the worst. There is no control of the kids and they resort to taking away privileges of sitting where we want and making lunch bad for the kids. The only good thing about the lunches are the lunch ladies. They work only to get under-paid. They are so nice to everyone and it's a joy to see them. They don't make the dances much fun anymore as they really don't care all that much. The student government of this school does nothing. They put up a few signs around the school and thats about it. The school is so bad one of the teachers is quoted saying "Wait until you hate your job." The school spent a lot of unneeded money on the big tablet looking things. They break down a lot and there is no point in them. The school uses this app called "gogaurdin" it is supposed to block certain websites that are bad but it ends up blocking most educational websites and the school will not unblock after several teachers asked for it to be unblocked. The superintendent that we used to have left this school and made almost everyone not like her. The school can't keep teachers, we have had numerous new superintendents and principals and we cant keep a guidance counselor. Overall I don't recommend this school to anyone.

This school no longer is concerned with teaching the 'whole' student or has concern for them as individuals with myriad needs who come from diverse home situations. There is no longer a sense of community, but merely employees earning a check with students being the run of the mill customers. There is no pride in accomplishment but simply churning out what the state says they must to get the funding. Celebrations of holidays and special events have gone by the wayside, community involvement as well. ATS used to be the centerpiece of our community - now it is no more than a locked down fortress sharing nothing at all with the stakeholders. At one time ATS prided itself on being a top school with every staff member invested in the success and well being of every student. Not sure that's the case now. If it is, there's surely no evidence. I will withhold particulars as individuals would be identified by same. Suffice it to say that it is beyond sad to see what has happened to the school the Alloway community supported and championed with pride. Empty houses and plummeting enrollment bear testament...
