This school is terrible. My child went there for four years. My child has been punched, choked, hit with a large rock, and inappropriately touched by other students at this school. To make matters worse I never received one phone call from the school to let me know my child was hit or being bullied. Mr. Morris and the principle before him are terrible. I tried to talk to Mr. Morris, but he brushe me off. He said his staff could take care of it. He was too busy he had a meeting he was late for. There are so many things wrong with this school. Because of the busing system It was difficult finding a new school for my child, but thank God I was able to take my child out of there and into a safer school.

I am so disappointed in this school. My kindergartener is above average in intelligence and is so incredibly bored there. I've never exprienced a school full of children that are so undisciplined and unruly. He's not learning anything he doesn't already know, has been at the receiving end of a few fists without a phone call to tell me about it, but I get a call because my child is talking in class. Parental involvement is almost nil and it shows in the behavior of their kids. The new principal has no presence that I can see. I will be thrilled when this school year is over and we can move on to bigger and better things.

My son is in Kindergarten Mandarin Immersion with BI and STEM (focus in science, Technology, Engineer, and Math) yes, and is only Kindergarten, The teachers are excellent great communications skills, compassion, caring but more then anything all the children are special to them. The kids has leaned so much and the year is not ended yet. They are advanced in math for first graders, reading and speaking Mandarin already. Strong principal leadership, discipline is excellent. I give a 5 starts and I highly recommend this school and mandarin program to all the parents who are looking for excellency academic and discipline

My daughter is a kindergartner at Benjamin E. Mays in the Mandarin Immersion program, and I can't say enough good things about her experience. Our expectations have been exceeded. Not only are she and her classmates acquiring Mandarin language skills amazingly fast, but they are using their new language to learn math that's far more advanced than any other kindergarten classes I know of. And thanks to the awesome teaching staff, she loves being at school. There's more: music, physical education, and computer classes; great nutrition services (district-wide free breakfast for every child, free fruit or veg snack for each child daily, and low-cost school lunch that always offers fresh vegetable and fruit); and free summer programming. A lot of people will be scared away by Ben Mays' test scores, but this is definitely a school where test scores don't tell the whole story. I urge parents who are interested in Mandarin immersion to take a tour. I think you will be impressed!
