The school has a hazardous environment for the students with allergies or any of the students that have ever been on the playground. There’s dangerous equipment on the playground that has caused a child to already have a head concussion. The school needs to take it down. We have emailed them about it. Gone to the school and multiple people have written reviews about it. This equipment needs to be taken down. This is a liability and an endangerment to students.

St. Francis Elementary is a fabulous school! The school staff and teachers are top notch, we're very happy with our education experience here. Highly recommend!!

I have two children who have attended SFE and it is a fantastic school full of the most amazingly dedicated people you can imagine. The school is a MN Reward school because they focus on making sure all students achieve and work to their best potential. The staff works together to help kids who are struggling and even make individual plans for them if they need it (The do this for regular education kids instead of trying to shove them into special ed). The teachers work hard to help kids be accountable for their actions and to make good choices. The only issue I've seen is that they could use more parent volunteers because it is always the same people helping and doing things.

We have had a very similar experience regarding first grade this year as the previous reviewer before me has stated. This makes me believe that this is a particular teacher issue. Let me preface by saying that we had a wonderful year in kindergarten with a great teacher. Our son did so well and loved going to school. We also love the principle and the dean they are wonderful people that truly care for the students. However, ever since the beginning of this year we have had very negative interactions between us and the teacher. His teacher only contacts us with problems but could never come up with a solution when we asked & always seems to tear down the students and make them feel as though they are bad kids if they don't do things exactly as she wants them done. She even told the kids that some of them were going to be crying after conferences. I can't speak for others in her class but I do know from other parents that she has had issues with other students.The whole experience this year has really gave us a negative association with this school and we have been looking at charter schools and moving to other districts.

I have not been happy with this school at all. I have had many problems so far. My kid has been at this school for 3 years and is currently in 1st grade. (he had to do 2 years of kindergarten) His kindergarten teachers were great. My son loved going to school. This year in first grade he has a teacher that is horrible. He had to do a worksheet with 15 math problems and you color in the circles after you get the answer. He only got 1 wrong and he was not congradulated, instead he was degraded by his coloring. Teacher looked at it and told him it's too messy. She completely is ruining my childs spirit. Another bad case was during his first year there, he tripped getting off the bus and landed head first on the sidewalk. I came ot pick him up, and the nurse let him just go to sleep following a bad head injury. When i questioned her, she said that he was tired and she didn't have time to only concentrate on one kid. Only giving this school 2 starts because of how great his teacher and year was last year.

SFES is a WONDERFUL school and the majority of the staff is FANTASTIC! The principal is very hands on and the children all know who she is. SFES does a wonderful job putting on Open House for all of the students- including a separate OH for the Kindergarten students. The staff is very helpful at the begining of the year getting the students to the correct buses in a timely manner (though there will always be those kids that just don't pay attention!) I love the opportunities for parent involvement- from Open House, the Halloween Parade, the Spring Carnival, the Walk-A-Thon, Fun and Field Day, Reading and Math Nights, and more! I'm very sad to be moving out of the district soon and am having a difficult time finding a school that rates as high and that is as great as SFES.

To correct a previous reviewer - There is always an open house at every school every year! If you miss it that isn't the school's problem. As far as finding teachers they go to each bus and pick up their kids every day for the first couple of weeks. After that the kids line up and are escorted in by their teacher for a couple more weeks.
