Junior high school is often a rough transition for teenagers, but my kids excelled at Dake. Student to Teacher ratios are better than average here so the kids get the attention they need. The students are continually challenged by staff to perform at their best, while also given the support and resources they need to be their best. The teachers here are very proactive at identifying opportunities for improvement and offering guidance. Communication is really quite good – with updates from staff to parents coming via phone and/or email just about every day year-long. The school offers a ton of extra-curricular activities/sports/clubs and parents are very involved (as well as the Irondequoit community). The music & drama programs in the district are particularly exceptional. Our daughter took advantage of music theory courses, chorus, orchestra and drama clubs. Our son loves the technology offerings and sports. The 'GreatSchools' score for Dake seems way off (to the downside). I've seen good schools and rough schools – Dake is one of the better ones. The school has a very high percentage of students on an accelerated educational program/track and test scores school-wide are some of the highest in the state. Say what you will about the usefulness of tests (personally I can take them or leave them), but that says something.

worst school, filled with bullying, incompetent teachers and counselors, racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia. This is not an exaggeration, going here was the worst part of my middle school life.
