We had a terrible experience at Ridgewood Elementary School in the Renton. We read about and hear on the news about schools actively ignoring educational goals of students in favor of their own agenda.

This school has no support for kid’s emotional well being as well as inclusiveness.

While the teachers at Ridgewood are great, and academically our kids are doing well, my wife and I have witnessed very unprofessional behavior from the administrative staff. Kids are yelled at from the moment they walk onto the school grounds by the cross-walk and drop-off line attendant. Young children who have to sit in class for several hours a day need a way to release their energy, but at Ridgewood they aren't allowed to run or play tag on the playground lest they get written up. They are yelled at for talking during lunch...in some cases through a megaphone! My own children talk about how they want to switch schools because the staff is mean and scary at times. We tell them to stick through it but in reality their experience is shared by many other families we know in the area. I honestly can't imagine a military school being much less strict than this school. I'm afraid that the only way Ridgewood gets better is if the principal takes control of the behavior of her staff. The school needs nurturing staff members, not drill sergeants!

Our overall experience at Ridgewood was great and I would definitely recommend this school to families moving to the area.

My daughter attended 4th, 5th, and 6th grade here. She was as sad as I was for it to end. The teachers and staff are amazing. We moved around several times between California, Oregon, and California. Tough on the family, tough on my kid. From day one, the teachers and students made my daughter feel at home. They gave her love, and attention like you would not believe. She flourished academically and as a person. I cannot say enough good things about the entire staff. Give them a shot, you will not be disappointed. I have 2 little boys who will soon attend school, and I am doing everything possible to purchase a home in this schools area, so that they can attend Ridgewood.

We have been at Ridgegwood for around 6 years now. This year is the worst as far as organization. We are planning on moving to get the kids out of Ridgewood and out of the Kent School District. After sitting back and watching my friends and family's kids flourish in their schools for the past few years, I'm finally getting them out. The new principal is nice, but inexperienced and now with no Superintendent, I don't want a part of it anymore and I don't want to wait to see if it will get better.

Ridgewood has kept the love of learning alive for both of my children. Like any business, experience of the staff (admin & teachers) can vary drastically. With few exceptions, our family has had a positive experience moving through the grades.

My son attended this school for two years. The first year his teacher was horrific. I had to take my child to a tutor. The second year his teacher was phenomenal. There is a huge focus on the highly capable program. For average students, it's hit or miss. Don't expect much from the administration- they are pleasant, but are just going through the motions and are worthless.
