The school is community focused. Many of the board belong to Stanford School of Education and receive guidance from the University. This school does their best to make sure that families are first. Staff sometimes visit homes, get to know families and build relationships. There is a focus on English Learning, as many families speak Spanish at this school. The staff is loving and caring. Social Emotional Learning is a major focus at this school !The academics are research based and teachers do the best with the funding they have. I would 100% recommend this school to the community. It meets the needs of the typical student. Basic skills. Creativity. SEL

I am a dedicated parent of two children at Connect Community Charter School. The school focuses on project based learning and social emotional learning. They work with Six Seconds, the same social emotional curriculum that Synapse, an expensive private school around the corner uses. The teachers have all been trained in Project Based learning and host project presentation days three times a year to showcase their learning. Some projects I have seen are a native american museum, a class built city, governments the students created and more! Students also take several field trips a year. The older grades, 4th and above, have overnight trips. They also have a wonderful art and music teacher that comes once a week.

I am a proud father of a Connect student. My daughter loves going to school everyday. She has learned so much the seven years she has been at Connect. It's a small school community, everyone knows everyone one. My daughter who is in 8th grade has made friends with children from all the grades. I really like the teachers, they are very friendly and they greet you with a big smile. The school has lost some great teachers due to the high cost of living in the bay area. But the admin staff has been great at hiring quality teachers. As a parent I love participating as much as possible.I highly recommend Connect Community Charter School.

Very high turnover both with teachers and with the school leadership. The school started out drawing students from across Redwood City but is quickly becoming just another neighborhood school in the Fair Oaks neighborhood.

My first-grade son's first year at Connect was a transformative one for him. He went from being a reluctant reader slightly below grade level to reading voraciously at four grades above grade level--because his teacher and peers helped him fall in love with reading. And the parent community has been warm, welcoming, and supportive as well. We are excited to start our second year at this wonderful school!

I am a parent of a middle schooler and am so impressed and pleased by the things my son has done in his first year at Connect. He has become very responsible about doing his work on his own. His vocabulary has expanded and when we were eating out a math problem came up and instead of just goin "huh" (like he would have last year) he worked through it, despite it just being thrown at him. When I look at my son I know he is happy at school, maturing and is learning to use his mind. I feel so very fortunate to have him in a supportive environment where the whole community cares deeply about the quality of education their children receive and teachers and support staff work so hard.

My son is completing his second year at Connect and we love it! He is happy and confident, he loves his classmates, his teachers and the staff. He has shown tremendous progress in his academics as well as his own personal social and emotional awareness. He has made good friends in his own class and enjoyed making friends with older students through the "buddy" program and at school events. The teachers are devoted, fun and energetic and are amazing at keeping my son engaged and excited to learn. He feels confident sharing his thoughts and ideas and asking questions. Together, the teachers, staff and families have worked hard to create an environment that really teaches fun, curiosity, creativity, critical thinking, problem solving, respect, responsibility and a sense of community. As Connect continues to grow in size and experience we expect these fundamentals to strengthen, benefitting the families of Connect as well as our entire Community.

We are so grateful to Connect for providing our daughter with an amazing kindergarten experience this year! The school director, teachers, and support staff feel like family, and have all worked together to make this an enriching and engaging year for our daughter and her classmates. We especially value the diverse community, the support for working families (including before and after school on-site extended care options), and the high level of parent involvement. We also appreciate the focus on critical thinking skills, developing emotional intelligence, and project-based collaboration (rather than rote learning). Close friends are opting for Connect over an expensive nearby private school, and we can see why! Looking forward to first grade and the years ahead.

After being at Connect for two years, my two elementary-age daughters feel strongly attached to their school, to the social environment there, and to the learning environment. Our teachers know my kids well and have been able to challenge each child at the pace and level that works for them as individuals. They re good at teaching creative problem solving, personal responsibility, and self-regulation. The school is still in "start-up mode," but things continue to smooth out and I'm impressed by how administration and teachers work through problems and come up with creative solutions. We love the multicultural make-up of our community. The school is highly sensitive to this and provides Spanish-language translation of written materials and at meetings. We love the hands-on projects that keep our kids engaged, the teachers creative curricula, the art and music lessons, the collaborative attitude of the staff, the community events, and the focus on social-emotional learning. The school makes an effort to build community on all levels and works to bring the goals and ideals of its charter to fruition in a real-world setting. We feel lucky to be at Connect!

My daughter is in kindergarten at Connect this year. The previous year, I agonized over where she would go to kindergarten. I don't think I could be any happier that she was selected and that we choose for her to go to Connect. Ms. Gina is simply an amazing teacher. The students are engaged, respectful, curious, and enthusiastic. The parents and administrators at Connect are also top-notch. For a new school, they have a lot of experienced staff who are devoted to the mission of getting all students educated and inspired.

This is my daughters first year at Connect. She has the shy/timid personality, which is why I thought I should try out something new and moved her to Connect. A little skeptical with low expectations, to my surprise she has surpassed her introvert nature. A few months after being at Connect she has been more outgoing, friendly, talkative and engaging. Her teacher is constantly communicating with any updates on her academic and behavior in the classroom. I am so happy with the individualized help she gets whether from the teacher or staff due to the small size of this school. I am more at peace knowing that my little girl is happy to go to school, has friends, loves her teacher, safe and joyful. Thank you Connect personnel!

Amazing curriculum, parents and teachers. They have an inquiry based learning approach and executed through projects. For example, themes are established for the week and language arts, math and science are taught through the theme (building soap box derby cars, etc.) My daughter comes home excited to share what she s learned!

Our son is in his second year at Connect and we have been so impressed by the innovative curriculum, the focus on social emotional learning and the outstanding teachers. Our son loves school and is excited about learning. Connect is a new school and there have been some bumps. We knew that when we signed up and we haven't had any regrets about choosing Connect.

I've observed classrooms across the grades, and students at every grade level have a chance to engage deeply in their learning. Lessons are mulitidisciplinary and connected to problems or situations in the real world. Teachers have a lot of flexibility to design their own lessons; creativity is very highly encouraged, and the staff works together very closely across the grades. My daughter is in kindergarten, and I love that the units are organized around a "quest," and the teacher's goals are partly academic, partly social. At a board meeting, I was glad to hear that few weeks the staff meets to assess the progress of every student, so that if anyone needs extra challenge or extra help they can get it right away. The middle schoolers have something called flex time where they get assigned to a group that focuses on the area they need help or challenge in. I like the report cards, which include some ratings of progress but are also narrative. Connect is still growing and developing but I think it's exciting that we can have this kind of whole-child approach in a public school that is very diverse. I like that my daughter has friends from a lot of different backgrounds.

Teachers and staff are wonderful and it feels like they care. There is a lot of parent involvement and the school environment feels positive. The class sizes are small. My daughter who is in kindergarten loves her teacher, school and friends and looks forward to school everyday.

Pros: engaged parents & committed teachers, who care deeply about quality education for the children. Focus on hands-on, projects-based learning and socio-emotional intelligence. Opportunity for helping to shape the school & foster unique, innovative learning experiences and events. Small, nurturing environment. Cons: school is new (2 yrs) and thus not all processes, etc. yet fully established. Start-up, so some "trial & errors" & bumps along the road, meaning you have to be comfortable with some degree of flexibility.
