Staffs seem to be friendly and encouraging to the students. My grandson felt comfortable on the first day.

We have been at Washington ES for five years (two kids attending, currently in 5th and 3rd grade) and have had a wonderful experience! The teachers we have had have all been caring, enthusiastic, and motivating. The administration has also been excellent. Our kids really enjoy the electives and the variety they provide. Washington has always provided our kids with a motivating, safe, diverse, friendly, and conducive environment for learning and growing. We couldn't be more pleased with our experience.

School is warm, caring and supportive for children and families at all time. They strive to support each individual's strength or challenges as a team. It is great to see team work of teachers and offer variety of wonderful electives. We just love this school so much.

We have nothing but positive things to say about Washington. The teachers, leadership, elective offerings, campus, etc were all phenomenal. Our child was at Washington for several years and transferred elsewhere this year due to a move. We miss Washington! We knew it was a great school prior to the transfer but our experience this year at this other local magnet school have served to further highlight (unfortunately in contrast) the level of engagement, positivity, and attention from the teachers and leadership at Washington.

Overall I love this school. We love the diversity and the electives. The electives that you want can be very hard to get. For example we have only gotten into our first choice a few times in the 3 years we have been at the school.

I love this school for my 3 children they all have been able to grow and learn while having fun. The leadership is awesome they know the children and parents by name and it feels like a true community. I am so happy that my children's first experience in the Wake county school system started at this school. Mr. Grant and Ms. Syke's are two of the greatest principles and overall examples to the children at their school. The PTA leadership and parents here also are very involved in planning well thought out and interactive events for the entire family.

We feel that Washington Elementary has provided an excellent educational experience for our children. We appreciate the diversity of the school and the character and skill building that the electives offer.

We absolutely love everything about WES. The students can choose from a large number of electives. There are lots of fun activities such as Arts and Letters or Science night. Students are proud to be Washington Wizards.

WES is an amazing school - it's a diverse environment with electives and other educational opportunities you won't get at many other schools. They do walking field trips to downtown destinations (which I love!). The teachers are wonderful and really invested in the kids, the administration is amazing, and I cannot imagine a better place. We are down to only 2 years left here and I will be sad when it's time to move on to middle school.

I had a tour at Washington 2years ago and found out two important facts. 1, Your kids need to be AIG(math and/or ELA) recognized to go to Carnage Middle. 2, If your child is recognized AIG, they need to take AIG-related elective. (which means, AIG kids take regular class in their math/ELA class and their elective time is wasted to take AIG class). This doesn't make any sense to me so that I sent my child to other school.

I do not appreciate you removing my review. You say to review the school honestly. I read your terms and I didn't violate any of them. Please don't ask parents to leave reviews if you don't really want the truth.

I have 2 children attending WES, the oldest in 5th grade. There is a great variety of electives and a group of teachers with diverse teaching styles. Principal Grant has been a great addition to the school and with him has been a change in energy (for the good) in the school. The teachers respect him and he is a natural leader for the staff and students! I look forward to watching the school continue to prosper.

Agree 100% with post on 1 October 2012. Have the same problem. Child just become underachiever even with AIG status. Honestly, I don't see why this school is different from regular, nonmagnet one.

I have 2 children who have attended Washington since they were Kindergartners. It is a wonderful school with outstanding, engaged teachers. The teachers really care about the students. Washington also offers a great arts program (drama, orchestra, band, art and dance) as well as super academics. The elective program allows students to take classes that cover the core curriculum, but in a very engaging way that really sparks students' creativity. My children's experience at Washington has given them a great start and our family couldn't be more pleased/

When my child was at Washington in the 4th grade, my husband and I was concerned about their academics. Mind you that my child was and still is AG Math and above average in every subject. When my we started to question the teacher, the teacher handled the situation very unprofessionally. The teacher became very angry at us which we could not understand. Any good parent would hopefully be concerned about their child and have questions for the teacher. At the end of the 4th grade year my child showed no growth in reading and very little in math. When my husband and I met with the administrators about this, they shifted the blame to my child. Well how about when my child's took the EOG they end of their 5th grade they showed tremendous growth in reading which shows me that it wasn't him. My child is currently in 6th grade, AG Math and maintaining a B or above average in every class. One thing I don't like about Washington is that the teachers are not held accountable. It's not always the child!!!

This is our 4th year at Washington, and we are highly satisfied with most of our experiences here. Academic challenge is individualized very well, and kids are assessed and shifted as their need for challenge changes. Core instruction is generally terrific, and the level of demand seems to shoot up in third grade. Electives a mostly great - building inventions, analyzing comedy, using math to build a business, modern art on the computer - but what we like the most is the way most teachers and the administration are responsive to families and respect parents' role in their kids' education. While not every request has been granted, we have gotten just what we needed every time it was truly inportant. Plus, we like having so many male teachers!
