My children have gone to Sitton now my Granddaughter and my Great Grandson are now attending. I find that the ones attending now are excited to attend school as much as their parents did. They will tell you what they've learned and what happened during the day.

Now that my son is entering his 2nd year at Sitton. I wanted to take the time and leave a review. The past negative reviews are all based on a different administration. Sitton is a title 1 school. In a very diverse and small community on the edge of Portland. It takes a loving, caring, empathetic, compassionate, open minded and hard-working administration. To help a school like Sitton succeed. In return they fill the school with a staff who hold all the same qualities. Don't take my word for it. Look at how the testing scores have improved among every demographic since this administration took over. You'll see those scores improved more than any school in the entire district. Watch the students run up to their teachers to hug them. Listen to those same students go on and on about their fun and amazing school. Talk to them about how safe they feel and how heard they are.

Just a community member here, but I think it's tremendous that the kids at Sitton use Pier Park as a classroom. What a gift these kids are getting ! Bravo Sitton.

I would not have it any other way i see a big difference in my kids learning and willingness to learn while at this school

I can only imagine the previous reviewer had an incident that was not resolved to their satisfaction since I have seen nothing of the sort of thing they describe.What I've observed as a parent who drops off every morning by going into the school, staying for breakfast through morning announcements, and walking my child to class: staff and administrators who know each child by name and address them with respect, firmly reminding them of their manners when necessary; a principal who greets students individually, wishing them a good day and reminding them to make good choices; a warm and welcoming environment for all students (and their families), regardless of background or abilities. The point about field trips is a flat lie; the entire school, with the exception of kindergarteners, went to a concert at the Schnitz on April 10. Now that the weather is improving, parents were asked to sign permission slips for impromptu walking field trips. (Speaking of... the school's proximity to beautiful Pier Park can't be oversold.)A new accessible playground was recently unveiled so that all children, regardless of ability, can enjoy recess.

This is one of the worse school ever. They treat majority of kids like its a behavior school. Way they restrain and talk to kids is out of line. Everyone in the school will no all your business by end of day. There disrespectful. Cover for teachers oppose to helping everyone win. Use same tactics for all kids. They dress unprofessional. Bullying. Kids already so young dislikes others. Everything about that school is a mess. I say to all that don't please stay involve and go see about your kids in that school. If you leave them to be fully in charge your child is always at odds. Being mistreated. Teachers are liars. They do and say one thing then lie to try and fix it. I've never seen a school so bad. Look and act so poor. Kids don't even go on field trips, not even a walk field trip. That school sucks big time. Need big help big time. Focus on better of kids, oppose to what goes on in there world of ups and downs. They meet and complain about them not getting enough help. Not having the funds. If you were a teacher for all the right reasons that shouldn't be a worry unless you really suck as a teacher and person. No kid should have to feel your pains. # check on your kids often at sitton elementary school

I am extremely dissapointed with our experience at Sitton Elementary. This school has a huge bullying problem, and they refuse to address the issue. The staff is also very negative and rude.

I agree with those who say come and visit. It is just a gem of a little school. The PTA is open and warm and they do such a nice job making things special for the kids. The art work and materials in the hall reflect the dedication of the staff to give our kids a well rounded education, constrained as they are by strict curriculums. There are numerous family nights that are well attended and a sweet little carnival to end the school year. My child is very happy. An emphasis is placed on community, inclusiveness, and respect for each other. In my time volunteering I have found the kids at Sitton to be sweet and respectful. Any small issues we have have been addressed quickly and openly. The teachers collaborate as grade level teams and all seem to genuinely care about one another. We are quite happy and my only complaint is that it isn't K-8.

I was hesitant when relocating to the Sitton school area due to its score. I couldn't have been more wrong. My son has attended two schools so far, one being a highly rated suburbian school and another in the PPS system. Sitton's staff is heads above anything we're used to, my son is getting the attention and direction he needs to thrive even though he has pretty intense case of ADHD. We are very optimistic regarding his education now when we were considering private schooling before hand. Before dismissing Sitton regarding its rating, please take a tour and see for yourself.

This is my family's second year at Sitton Elementary. All I have to say is the only way you will get a clear picture of the quality of this school is to walk through the doors, talk to the principal, meet with the teachers and then decide. This school is full of amazing faculty who strive to make a difference in each child's life. The children at this school are full of life and love and a yearning for learning! I can't say enough about the great teachers here--which, absolutely make this school a place where I want my kids to be!

Sitton Elementary, among other public schools in Portland, has it's hurdles to bear. It's a Title 1 school in a district that has cut its budget year after year. But there's hope and many determined staff striving to make the school better year after year. There's an active PTA, a Junta de Padres group, Site Council, and a principal with an open door policy. We have many community partners who have given numerous hours, along with parents & staff, to paint, weed, and build items for the school. Any concerns I may have regarding my child's education has been heard and responded to promptly. Sitton may not be the right fit for every child, but it's worth taking the time to visit & talking with the principal before making judgements. As they say, you can't judge a book by it's cover!

I whent to sittion 19 yrs ago, Im 25 now and my sun goes there now and nothing has change appearance wise. They still have a out dated play structure from when i whent there and the building looks like its gonna fall apart with tagging along the side as well. I would glady put in free labor as a parent to help paint or start sum kinda funraiser to get the play structure up to date i think the staff at sittion is nice but need to take more pride in there school apperance because it's way below standards. The only after school program is sun school give me a break! thats it what happen to music glass or flag football or sum type of extra curricular activity thats about learning something its just sad. I would not recommend this school for any kid way below standards

I will be the first to admit that I did everything in my power to keep my daughter from this school. I erroneously believed this was just another ghetto school. I was very wrong. My husband and I transferred our oldest child to this school after a very traumatic experience at Trillium Charter School. After her first day at Sitton, my entire opinion of this school changed. I have never witnessed such a kind, caring and dedicated staff and faculty in my life. Within 4 days, my daughter was referred for special ed testing--something her former school refused to do--and after extensive testing, we learned she has a severe learning disability. They worked very hard to help her succeed and she did! She entered the school 2 full academic years behind, and left not only at grade level but as a Self-Manager! She is confident, eager to learn and loves school. The after care program is free and amazing. The courses are varied and diverse. I must add that Peg, the after care director, is amazing! She really knows and loves the children and it shows every day. Take advantage of this school, you will not be disappointed!
