Both of my sons have attended school at Landrum Middle School so that totals 6 years at Landrum. Middle school years are difficult and the teachers and staff at Landrum Middle School work hard every day to guide and direct early teens towards success.

THEY WILL BE JUST FINE!Let's be honest, teachers have limited resources and far too many students in their classrooms (and at all different levels) to be completely effective. It is no longer the way it used to be in elementary and middle school where the focus was on building the foundation of learning and preparing for high school and beyond. Now the focus is on test scores and standards and it has made it so that many teachers no longer enjoy teaching, which makes it hard for the kids to enjoy learning. Very little effort is put into individual classroom curriculums anymore - usually just worksheets downloaded from the internet. I only wish our kids had the teachers (or rather school systems) from even just 15-20 years ago. That's not to say that the teachers are the problem- this stems from the administration and all of the guidelines the teachers must now follow, but to be fair, with some effort, it could still be made enjoyable and engaging. While some teachers at Landrum do really "teach", there are those who put little effort merely sending home the same printed pages that they sent my other kids in previous years. BUT this is no different than any other school in any other district across the state ... across the country. The difference here is that nearly all of the teachers we have encountered, at the very least, care and want the best for their students. My kid is happy here. He has friends and enjoys most of his teachers (that's to be expected). He likes most of the staff (also to be expected). He feels safe (most important). One parent mentioned that was an issue and I have been a part of Landrum for many years and can say that has never been the case. He dresses however he feels (as do most kids) and it is never a problem. Is he going to come out of here solving quadratic equations or even being able to spell quadratic equation? Not likely. But, that's also indicative of his efforts, not just the teacher's. Bottom line- your child will get out of it what he/she puts into it and so will you. If you stay involved, your child will do just fine here. It's a good school with great families and great kids as well. I think if most people truly thought about these reviews before they wrote them and were also truly honest with themselves, they would probably realize thatvwhat they wrote was extremely exaggerated. We tend to do that when our kids are involved. Let your child go to Landrum. They will be just fine ... and so will you.

I have been very impressed with the new administration at Landrum. The principal made a quality impact in his first year. The culture of the school is positive and a place students want to attend.

Rough. Teachers & staff are ineffectual & grossly inept and never held accountable for their mistakes and errors.

Not worth it! Teachers don't teach. Administration perpetually unavailable--teachers remiss--don't bring your kids here. Lotsa money--lotsa absent "educators." If you can afford to live in PVB, go private school. Landrum is not worth it!

Staff and teachers don't actually "teach." Just rely on Internet to do all the work. Terrible teachers--cannot say it enough. I moved here thinking it would be great--it's not!

Whatever this school once was, it isn't anymore. The administration and staff are only accommodating to certain categories of kids and families, too. Send your kids to private and stay away from Landrum!.

Landrum is a good school, but it is getting overcrowded. WIth so many students, it can feel impersonal. They need to do a much better job of acclimating new students and teaching students to care about more than their popularity and grades, but rather on building a stronger school community full of compassionate kids. This is critical for this age group in a place where many kids are entitled. The school also needs more clubs and activities. Kids were closed out of clubs and classes this year. This meant they couldn't meet peers. School is not just about testing, but it is about developing friendships and empathy. Landrum needs to work on this.

Landrum has gotten better over the past two years with replacing the horrible principal they had previously, but still has a long way to go. There are a couple of teachers who have been teaching for 25+ years who are way past retirement. This is reflected in both their attitude and their teaching style. School Officials are always right regardless of circumstances or situation. If your child can go to another middle school, I would highly suggest it, don't subject them to this.

Landrum Middle School is an AMAZING community school supported by caring staff and supportive parents. Elective options support a continuum of services in: language (overview in 6th grade, Spanish in 7th and 8th, and Spanish for high school credit and Chinese for high school credit in 8th grade), computer education (including CCC for high school credit in 8th), STEM courses (gaming, coding, TV production), physical education, Engaged Citizenship and Leadership, Art, Music, Drama, and Debate... The academic program is rigorous, preparing students for the full-implementation of the Common Core State Standards in 2014! The teachers and parents are "ALL IN" with commitment to the students and improving existing programs and technological infrastructure. Postive Behavior Support mechanisms ensure a proactive approach to student behavior, guiding students to make positive choices. Middle School is a beautiful period of growth and independence. LMS supports this development through building postive relationships and providing opportunities to get involved. Staff and students stand "United" for one another bc Landrum C.A.R.E.S! (Culture of Accepting and Respecting Every Student)!

My eighth grader has had exemplary teachers at Landrum. We could not ask for higher standards in all areas of her education.

I am a teacher at the high school that receives Landrum students. The kids come prepared for high school academically and socially. I will soon have a son in 6 th grade and they have made a great effort to make sure that he and the other 6 th graders feel welcome.

Landrum is a good school. My daughter is entering her second year at this school. Middle school is a tough transition for children and I feel that Landrum staff and administration does its best to minimize the stress of this transition. Each school goes through the pains of change however I feel each member of this school is intent on making the school a parent teacher supported place of education for each student at every learning level. The support is there. My daughter struggled with math. She was placed in a before school support class which helped her improve tremendously. I agree with the previous review. As a responsible parent, it is your duty to try and resolve your issues one on one with the teacher and administration. Posting negative comments hurts our children, their confidence and pride in their school as well as our community as a whole.
