The children are not challenged, we recently moved to the area and though a quiet country school near a major university would be more cutting edge but it's not. The academic rigors are that of the status quo, parents who are NOT high school graduates much less college graduates and a former principal (who they recently promoted to interim superintendent) who send LMS out mass emails with multiple misspellings and grammatical errors. The bar is not set high.

With three years in at Pleasant Gap Elementary, my three children have been very active with this school. The teachers have been working through new curriculum that has been challenging, but mostly for a few of the parents. When homework comes home, it can be difficult to understand a new way of handling education fundamentals. The support staff, administration, and the teachers have all been extremely friendly and helpful. I haven't agreed with all of the tactics that the teachers or the administrators have used, however, they have always seemed to ultimately be fair and based in reasonable logic. With annual events like field day, the PTO Carnival and Bingo for Books, if you're willing to be active in the community, it is ready to accept you with open arms. This is not, however, a residential education program. The teachers work with parents and the students to achieve their learning objectives. Teachers are highly successful in communicating with parents and have a strong track record of quickly responding to emails and other rapid messaging systems (some teachers use ClassDojo). This won't take the place of talking with your child, but it does help as a conversation starter (both with the teachers and with your child). All in all, if you're not willing to actively engage with the teachers, administrators and your kids about their development, PGE probably isn't for you.As for clubs/activities, there are active scout troops (cub, boy and girl: which make exploring the outdoors a natural part of what we do) and a number of local religious youth groups. We are considering moving to a new house, however, we are making sure that our children will have the chance to finish their elementary education (5 more years) here at Pleasant Gap Elementary.

2/4 of my children's teachers have been awful so far. This school has high test scores only because Pleasant Gap is a pretty well to do area. The principle is really fake and the teachers are lazy at best often asking parents to work with kids at home to make up for their inabilities to teach appropriately in the classroom. Don't be fooled by the test scores, this school is not good.
