The school is just OK. They spend money on sports and salaries. The facility is constantly upgraded while the bullying and student support decreases. The teachers scream for more money (while adequate teachers) aren’t producing positive productive students. In my opinion the school (while heralded as a great community champion), is like the town- run by people who like certain families (and their children.) If your child is on the fringes, they may or may not do week- it is literally a coin flip here. If you don’t mind gambling on your child and families future- this is a fine choice. I, personally, would look into private options or home school.

Great school! This is a small town where teachers care. Like all schools, they do their best do deal with top-down government mandates and funding.

I have attended school and worked in this district, however I have more experience in the elementary level. Recently, both elementary and high school received new principals, and a new superintendent as well. I have already seen more good come from this. The small community is very involved with the school and vice versa. I cannot verify whether the previous letter (2010) was factual at the time, but I can assure you now that it is completely inaccurate. This district is a great place for students and faculty.

Not all bad however I have pulled my children for at home schooling. I believe it would be very beneficial for them to find a new superintendent. One who perhaps as the taxes payer before giving herself a 20,000/year raise.

The previous letter was no doubt written by some disgruntled parent, teacher or staff person. I have lived in Pine River for over 40 years and though every school has its ups and downs, I can honestly say that there are very few negative comments coming from the public or those who attend or work at PRB. The school has been a great asset to the community. We, as many schools in this area fight the fight of a depressed economy on some levels, which makes it a challenge to work through, but I feel the school addresses these needs very well and many of the students go on to great college and work careers. We have students in Princeton, Harvard and every other high ranking college in the U.S. and they do very well. I do not buy the short ranking issured by the previous writer and I would belive neither do many who live here and send their kids to school here!

Parents BEWARE... I was a very active parent volunteer. The good: The school is a very nice updated & modern facility. The sports program all though limited is very good. Most teachers are mostly good to excellent in the elementary school (K-12 is all one building) The bad: Elementary school HAD some wonderful teachers & still have a handful of wonderful teachers. The principle is selectively getting rid of the (old school) teachers & bringing in her new (i mean fresh out of college) teachers strictly because of money & intimidation factor (opinion). Don't get me wrong, to bring in SOME inexperience teachers is good, but not all, I mean over 8 teachers in the past 2 yrs. in elementary alone. The new teacher s classrooms are very chaotic, no discipline. We are now classified as a Title I. Less than a handful of gifted student programs but plenty of money & programs for challenged children which isn't a terribly bad thing, but moneys should be better divided equally into multiple levels. Bullying is a problem. They talk the talk, but not walk the walk. Bottom line is if you have an average to above average child, please do your own research before you choose Pine River/Backus.
