Orono High School is a fine school. It is not excellent or exceptional but it is serviceable. Most of the teachers are friendly enough and they all seem to care deeply about their subject. The quality of the lessons and teaching varies from "needs improvement" to "exceptional". I would about 75 percent of teachers reach the "decent" mark. The curriculum is well designed and the thought and care put into the courses and their subject do show. Honors classes do more than just give the student more homework, they also go more in-depth than the regular classes. The graduation requirements are the most restrictive during the freshman and sophomore years. After this, the courses open to students become more flexible and students are able to choose their path. I am a fan of all these aspects of the curriculum. What I am not a fan of is the fact that they have reduced the amount of content they are covering due to Covid. This is annoying and pathetic because now the experience of being an OHS student is less rich than it was a few years ago. The community is not very good. Numerous students whine about getting any homework at all and are consistently rude to their teachers. Other students are academically competitive and attempt to condescend to anybody with anything less than the highest honors every quarter. Other students call people out for breaking rules but consistently ignore the same rule when their friend breaks it. Discipline is pathetic. During my sophomore year, I attempted to count every time someone who should have gotten in trouble but didn't. I got bored with this project when I hit triple digits. (slight exaggeration) Would I recommend this school? It depends. This is definitely better than your average town high school. If all you need is a decent education then I would recommend OHS. But if you want a top-quality school with the finest education and curriculum then I would keep looking.

How could anybody possibly give this school a bad review, I am a freshman at OHS, and I don't have one bad thing to say about the staff, they are caring. When you need one on one help, the teachers are glad to help during a study hall, before or after school. I feel that I am get the best possible education at this point, and I love it here. And there is a no bullying policy and they actually enforce it. We have a wonderful resource officer at our school full time, and he's awesome . Yes I will agree that the food is not gourmet, and its not that great, but its food, and I don't see how lunch can really play into choosing a school. But anyway I love this school and its awesome. I advise you to send your children here, you will not be disappointed!
