The school's funding has dropped significantly under Ms. Marshall's leadership. When I first arrived at the school, the annual fund campaign surpassed its $100,000 goal by thousands. This allowed the school to invest in new technology year over year as well as invest in the children. Under her leadership, the annual fund has declined significantly with a current goal of $40,000. The school no longer receives the type of funding needed to support new technology or quality teachers. To offset the lack of funding, the school has reduced the number of teachers in the classroom with only 1 assistant per grade. Class sizes are significantly higher than (25+) the maximum required by the State for public schools, but there is often only 1 teacher in the classrooms at a time. The school is also located in an unsafe area. Last year, the church was vandalized with students near by. The school continues to promise safety for students, but there continues to be a number of unwelcome guests on school grounds. The school doesn't take initiative to obtain feedback from the parents. Perhaps if they offered an anonymous survey to the parents, it would allow them to see what needs to change to foster a safe learning environment for all children.

So sad. After so many years being a teacher who referred this school to my students I had to withdraw my child because he was being bullied by teachers because of His Tourette’s.

This school has changed leaps and bounds since Sister Elizabeth is no longer running it. Initially I thought Ms Marshall was going to be a good fit. However in her second year, she is making so many changes for next year that include moving valuable, experienced teachers to different grades or positions. These teachers that have been successfully teaching children for decades are the very reason we chose SJV!!! more and more of these valuable teachers are leaving every year because they are forced into new positions which leaves the school with brand new out of school teachers. Experience speaks volumes over a new degree when it comes to my children. On top of it, these changes are made whether or not the parents agree; in fact, she doesn't even ask! When we have something to say about it, the decision has already been made and cannot be reassessed!! Now tuition is being increased so that the maximum amount from the Step Up scholarship can be gained as well... parents here are aware Ms Marshall! The only saving grace has been the amazing preschool that has been in place for the last 20 years, but guess what... that teacher is out of that position next year and replaced with a teacher with all of barely 2 years experience!!! I used to highly recommend this school and now I can't believe that I have to look for another school.

I completely agree with the previous comments about the new principal. The whole school changed after she took the leadership. We had many concerns and disappointments with this new principal and witnessed at first hand her lack of good leadership. The good thing is that she is no longer at the school and that the school is in the search of a new one. Overall, this school is a great place to enroll your children. The teachers are very dedicated and responsive. They are constantly challenging and motivating the students to learn. They also have both a strong sports and music program.

I would give this school a much higher rating if it were not for the new principal. The students and most of the teachers are great and have been for all the years my children have been at SJV. But in the last 6 months, with the new administration, things are changing fast. No longer is there a family feeling, teachers seem stressed and unhappy, communication is poor, student safety and dicipline policy is questionable, catholic roots are being forgotten or ignored and so much more. Many parents feel there concerns are being dismissed and I have been ignored or treated rudely routinely. Many parents feel this way and do not feel they have a voice or a way to express concerns because they are turned away or lied to when they try to address issues. I truly question the leadership that hired this principal and wonder why they have not followed up with her performance as an administrator. It is clear that have not.

St. John Vianney is a wonderful school. Our daughter has attended this school for 6 years now and we have never had a day of regret. Our principal is fair and caring. They not only challenge the children academically but also instill Catholic values that are extremely important to our family. SJV offers a lot of opportunity for the children to participate in school activities. In times of financial hardship, it is definitely worth exposing your children to this amazing education.
