We love Pewitt Elementary! The tight knit community is a huge plus for us. I am not from this area but have come to feel at home here. The teachers & staff at Pewitt Elementary have been great to communicate with us & are always appreciative of us reinforcing appropriate school behaviors at home. When I ask for updates, the teachers reply timely. Could not ask for a better principal than Mrs. Pate. She is wonderful. The student to teacher ratio is also great. The school participates in a number of great programs- such as free lunches to all Elementary students and an after-school program. My kids do not have much homework. Normally homework is either to practice/review the weeks material or to read books. If they are not using classroom time wisely, they may have some work sent home. The classrooms & hallways are always decorated in fun themes for young kids. You can tell the staff puts a lot of work into it. I know some feel that small schools do not offer the same opportunities as larger schools, but the benefits are so much greater to me in a small school. My kids are accountable for their actions because they know Mom & Dad will find out. They also get more individual attention & opportunities to grow their confidence. I feel safe sending my kids to this school.

I begged for help for my son for FOUR years. (Kindergarten, twice and first grade, also twice). All they kept doing was labeling him a bad kid, and failing him. At 9, he was still in first grade. I was finally able to get private testing done, and gee, he is special needs. Absolutely ridiculous. After nearly a full year in a completely different school district, in THIRD grade, (he ended up missing second entirely because of all the nonsense), and with appropriate assistance, he improved by leaps and bounds. Unfortunately, due to financial circumstances, we are stuck back in this school district.
