Our 7th grader has a 504 plan in place that the school and teachers wouldn’t acknowledged until half way through the year. Then wouldn’t fully cooperate with it and when we would talk to them about it Principal Wendy Long said we should find other arrangements if we want to be accommodated. So we went to online school

This school is not great and I feel like my kid is struggling with some classes and not getting the help needed. The school has a zero tolerance policy for Jr high kids doing what Jr high kids do. The zero tolerance policy seems to change and enforcement is not consistent. I am looking for other schools for my kids as I want them to have a good education.

Teachers:My teachers are good. Some of them are fun, some are boring, some are supportive, while others are not. I have only ever had an issue with one teacher and that teacher is just all arround rude. Other than that one teacher, I like my teachers. I had one teacher that felt like they only assigned busy work. I feel like the teacher that I had problems with taught me next to nothing. I can almost guarantee that no students even retains more than 1/8 - 1/4 of the content taught by that teacher. All of my other teacher are effective at teaching and teach well. All most all assignments are assigned on Canvas (made by Instructure) so students can can access assignments away from school (an excuse teachers sometimes use to ruin vacations).Computers/Internet Safety:The school and dirstrict go to great lengths to restrict (block) access to "unsafe" websites. They have used the IBoss Cloud Enterprise extension. It is very efficent and efective at blocking websites (though it can be bypassed if you know what you are doing). This past school year they tested a free trial of GoGuardian (yes, they buying it for this upcoming school year). Simply put, GoGuardian is VERY annoying. Teachers love(d) it, students hated it. A common complaint was how much ram GoGuardian used (even when not in use). It can be bypassed, but not as easily. GoGuardian gave me countless headaches all caused by the extensions bad design. For example, it replaced every single tab with a temporary blocking message (which did not end too well on my chromebook that regularly had over 1,500 tabs, and yes, you did read 1,500 tabs correctly). The blocking policy is a little over zealous. For example, spotify is blocked until highschool and other sites are pointlessly blocked (and NO those other websites had nothing to do with online games). The school loans students chromebooks for a year or two at a time.Students:Most students are friendly. Some students try to fail every class they can, others try to survive, and then others are overachiver A+ students. There usually are 3-4 fights every quarter (for comparison there was ~1 fight a school year when my older siblings attended). There is some bllying occasinally but very infrequently.Counselers:Are very good/nice.Office Staff:Helpful.A usual school schedual looks something like:1st2nd3rd4th1st lunch5th2nd lunch6th7thStudy hallOverall I like the school but there are a few things I don't like.

My daughter is an English speaking born in Ogden Hispanic and here is our experience. It seems as per usual unfortunately in many schools in Utah that if you are not LDS or White you tend to be overlooked and at times discriminated that was the case here in some things our daughter was apart of. There are teachers with biases and a bit racist that teach here. There were a lot of fights at this school, a few serious incidents most important a lack of communication to us parents. The office staff are kind with the exception of a couple. Unfortunately preferential treatment of LDS children for sports teams, student officers and other school activities. When does this stop? I dealt with this as a Hispanic when I went to school in Ogden decades ago. When do we stop discriminating against children of color, more importantly children who aren't LDS? Guess what that's ok! When do we focus on character building, inclusiveness, subjects that are more relevant to the time we live in?

My two older boys attended this Junior high school. The administrative staff has always been very kind and helpful to my boys. They are very good at looking after my boys, and they have asked where the other is when sick. I think the teachers are friendly and helpful to my family and me, and when I ever needed something answered, they had a quick response time. I am a firm believer that your child's experience at school depends on several factors, not just teachers. Just like everything else in life, there are a select few teachers that are there for a paycheck, and that is sad, but it is what it is, and if you choose to home school, that's your decision. Not all can do that as parents. All I can say is to be more involved. My only huge complaint is they need to contact parents way before PTC if the child is failing or missing work. It's tough to keep up with all the kids in one family. I know about all the different ways to look online and emails, but call me old fashioned, but I like a phone call! Oh, btw my two younger boys are currently enrolled at South and one my daughter will be too. I will always support my local schools. It's not an easy job for you other people to watch and teach kids that don't belong to them, but it sure is easy for parents to drop off and forget for 8 Hrs a day. We need to take a huge step back and look at the problems. I know what MY issues are. Do you realize YOURS?

I agree with others about the poor administration at this school. My son went there for the 2009-2010 school year. We pulled him and chose to homeschool him over sending him back to South Ogden. He encountered a teacher who swore at the class, a counselor who didn't know what he was doing, staff who was less then co-operative when we tried to implement a plan to keep my son on track academically. Because of the treatment my son received at South Ogden, we have done all that we could to avoid sending our younger children to that school. My daughter entered an online school program and my now 7th grader is attending a charter school to avoid going to South.
