I'm noy sure what this other person is saying but my experience at Oakes High School was amazing. My family have a lot of money and I was new to the town, but I was treated as a normal student and found a great friend group almost immediately. The teachers always helped me when I had questions about work, and I felt like I belonged. I'm now attending college at UND in Grand Forks, North Dakota and I'm happy that I went to high school in Oakes. So don't trust what this other person is saying, Oakes High School is an amazing choice.

Overall, the subjects taught and the way they are taught is average. However, the one thing that stands out in this school is horrible, terrible bullying problems. As a former student, this schools bullying issues affected EVERYTHING I did. If you are born and raised in Oakes, there doesn't seem to be much issue as long as you have money or own some piece of land. But if you don't, you best bet you most likely won't fit in with the popular crowd and you will be targeted. If you are a newcomer to the town, you will almost definitely be picked on and have an extremely hard time fitting in. Everyday there was some new kind of torment. As far as sports go, if you don't know the coach outside of school, you will not get play time unless you are born with some superhuman type skills. The favoritism is absolutely disgusting and no matter how many times you report bullying incidents, nothing serious happens. They get a slap on the hand and do nothing else. The drinking and drug problems are also very bad. This school is a very, very bad place to send your precious children, and the town itself has little to offer as well. Your kids would be better off homeschooled then to be sent to this school to endure 12 years of nothing but torment and trying to fit in with the right people as to avoid getting bullied. I am still recovering from the self-esteem issues this school and the people in it have given me. A teacher, once, commented "Are you stupid because you're blonde?" Nothing was done as punishment to him. If there were negative star review options, I would choose those. I urge you to find a different school. Thank you for reading.
