I would give this School 10 out of ten stars. This school promotes parent involvement and all of my children’s teachers have been proactive in meeting their needs academically and emotionally. They really stress the importance of daily attendance, respect for others, self accountability, and praise positive behavior. Their are also many workshop and family dinners held at the school to teach parents how to assist their child with reading math, science and study habits. There’s a strong sense of community here and the PTA and the school work wonderfully together for the success of all the students.

My children's school is my childhood elementary school, West End School. I have seen the best teachers walk through these halls for 30 years. The sense of community I feel when I am at a school function is unbelieveable. We are a small town, we have 3 elementary schools within 2 square miles. West End School is a place where 550+ students walk the halls annually and I as a parent, PTA member, Substitute Teacher and alumni am proud to say I can name every child. Why? Because there is such a strong sense of community, each child in that school is like family to one another. We are an economically diverse and culturally diverse population. The children and parents embrace each other without seeing race, color or creed. We do not look at weaknesses and turn away, we help one another. Custodial staff, Teachers, nurses, academic support, paraprofessionals, lunch aides, lunch servers, everyone in this school matters and takes pride in their job and it shows. I am proud to STILL be part of the community at West End School where the teachers go above and beyond for the children. Many don't know what a teacher does, being a substitute and parent and alumni I see and appreciate everything.

I was exceptionally pleased with my son's experience at West End school. This was a transition year for him and he did so quite well. His teacher was great and always provided great feedback regarding my child academic progress. The PTA is strong and encourage parental involvement. They run several activies thorough the year to blend the school and the community. This school is big on developing a child not only academically but also developing their character which I loved. I am glad I decided to place my child in this school despite the low great schools rating.

He has left Kindergarten reading and writing at a level that has far exceeded the level I predicted he would reach. His teachers were nurturing and caring, while maintain academic rigor and structure in the classroom. The classroom environment was child-friendly, and my son came home daily with tales of the new and fun things he had done in school that day. I could go on and on about how impressed I was with the quality of education my son received at West End this past year. It seems that this website solely uses standardized testing scores to rate the schools on its site. Although those scores are valuable resources for parents, as an educator I am also fully aware of the fact that the exam scores are just a small slice of the pie that represents the overall educational performance of a school. 5 stars for West End!
