As stated in previous reviews, this is a good school for certain students but not all students. Students who report inappropriate behaviors are punished and revictimized by the very adults who are supposed to be safe. Bathroom policies are very clear to students to use "biologically assigned gender" bathrooms further stigmatized and contributing to poor student mental health. Student Services is nonexistent as the deans have no training and poor skills to support students (likely no interest). Test scores and reputation do not make up for damaging student well-being.

teachers try to make things fun, but its still kinda boring, in half your classes you have no friends(doesn't help my social anxiety), and kids are rude af.

I love this school, the teachers and deans are really great and I'm very sad to leave but they have trained us to get ready for the MV system!

This review is about the Mounds View Public Schools District as a whole. Mounds View would be a good district if it were not for a few major factors: 1. Mounds View is plagued by cliques. Everyone is in one and nobody wants to allow others to join their clique. Because of this, there is a major divide between popular and not, wealthy or otherwise, smart or average and so on. 2. Teachers are not skilled. All the teachers (except a few) teach only to the standard on the test. Students here are not smart because of the schools or the teachers, but because they are smart to begin with and there parents have taught them well. The teachers are mediocre and are often replaced- sometimes after only teaching for one or less years. 3. The district does not listen to their students or their parents. If a student notices something wrong and says something about it, they get punished. They limit the free speech rights of their students and use fear against them. All in all, if you can avoid it, do NOT go to this school. It is not a place for your child to succeed or feel safe. Note- this review was abridged to fit in the max amount of characters.

Mediocre teachers with little teaching experience. About 35 students per class with no individual learning time with the teacher. Biased teachers and textbooks. Horrible school lunch- $2.70+ for cold breaded chicken and canned fruit. All this district cares about is their public image- they lie about test scores and policies. Would NOT recommend this school to anyone. Try Mahtomedi district.

Overall we loved this school. Orchestra program is excellent. Mrs. Aiken and Mr. Larson provided different, but equally awesome conducting. Our son had a woman physical education teacher who was wonderful. She was encouraging and fair. Our son had a math teacher who met with him on weekends. Overall, kids were encouraged and helped to succeed. The middle school years are rough and I think this team of teachers really pulls together to help these kids learn to be responsible for themselves (as long as the parents don't get in the way!) We felt our son was well prepared for the rigors of our district's highly rated high school. I would highly recommend changing over from a dean system to a homeroom teacher system to give kids someone they can really connect with and have as a mentor. And if it isn't a good relationship, then there's always a schedule change. I find the dean system expensive and out of touch with the needs of the kids. I would also recommend more options for kids interested in technology. Mounds View is really lacking in that area.
