Our students have returned after a year and a half at home, due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The students were not used to the structure of school at the beginning of the year, and have had to re-acclimate themselves to being at Lankershim Elementary School. Many are well below grade level, and are dealing with difficult experiences or trauma from the trying times we all have been living in. Our staff has gone above and beyond to meet the social/emotional, as well as academic needs of our students. The dedication and love toward students is evident. It has not been easy and there have been many unique challenges for students and staff during this year, but we are all moving forward and progressing. The school has provided safety measures for everyone: the daily pass to enter school grounds, hand sanitizer provided in all classrooms and all around the school and easily accessible to all, a mask mandate for most of the year, weekly Covid testing for students and staff, social distancing at lunch and in walkways for much of the year, training for staff on providing social/emotional support through lessons and discussions, air filters in all buildings and rooms running all day, daily grab and go bags of food provided for all students who leave after school and food provided for children in after school programs, and more. Entering school in the morning and dismissal at the end of the day has been highly organized and efficient. Teachers wait with students of all grade levels to see them picked up by family members and guardians. Zoom meetings have been set up for back to school night, parent conferences, open house, etc. The staff at Lankershim Elementary will continue to work with the children, to help them to continue learning their academic skills and concepts, and to help the children adjust to being in the school environment once again. Thank you to all of the families and guardians who are also working hard to send their children to school and supporting them at home. It is definitely a team effort to raise and educate our children. Go Lankershim lions!

The office staff is very friendly, hard-working and as prompt as possible. The principal seems like she is really trying her best but may not have the best grasp on guiding teacher curriculum. Our experience with a 2nd grade teacher is the overall reason for the score. The class seemed very structured but when it came down to my child receiving grade-level learning unfortunately there was no challenge, no weekly or monthly parent communication, graded papers never came home or appropriate homework.

i've walked past this school every day for 6 years on my way to work. the last several days @~1PM, a particular teacher/staff member has apparently found it interesting to try to physically force me off the sidewalk. i walk on the far right side of sidewalk; this person sees me coming- from her position on the side of the schoolyard- and promptly begins to walk on the left side on same sidewalk--- until she physically crashes directly into me. upon collision, incredibly she has the nerve to screams accusations. not a good sign for anyone considering letting these people watch their children. today i walked by and noticed this person standing in the school yard. the moment she saw me, she began video capture on her smartphone. i can't endorse a school with violent, antisocial and deluded staff. truly pathological- and as an attorney, i'm considering my options vis a/b. to the school admin: control your staff or i'll enlist the local police to help you next time.various parents and teachers crowd the sidewalk, blocking the right of way. i walk on the right side of the sidewalk

Last year when principal MR.Razo was there, things were very unorganized ,they would always try to raise money for field trips, kids never really went to field trips.my son has only been to one field trip since he's been there.he's in 2nd grade now.Good thing we have a new principal, mr.clark. Mr. clark has been doing some improvements to the school and has made it funner for kids.in the morning he plays music as well as for lunch time. He's bought new school sports equipment, also made the city give us a 15 minute parking ,so when we pick up our child after school,we can now park on bakman.I wish the school had a higher rating !maybe with the help of this cool new principal ,things can change at this school.

The parent center at Lankershim is great. We need more parent center like this one at all the schools.

I've met 3 "principals" since the school started. My child has had to change teachers because his teacher left the school. We got a weekends notice... Very unorganized drop off and pick up situations. The teachers dismissal is a joke. The teacher my son did have couldn't even recall the name of the program they were teaching science with that year when asked at back to school night. She had to have a parent read it off of the box of textbooks. Im taking my son out of this school immediately and if you care about your childs education you would too.

So far my children have had a wonderful experience. my kids were from out of state and the teacher and principal are very welcoming and helpful. the only thing i would imporve would be the dismissal dont feel like it is very organized. And the teacher to child ratio.

I attended Lankershim from 1950 to 1955. All I can remember are good times, and teachers who cared about their charges. Three teachers stand out in my memory. Mrs. Hodges (kindergarten), Mr. Irwin Sobel, (6th grade) and one very special lady, Winifred Scribner, (1st grade). I dropped by around 20 years ago with my sister who also went there, and we visited with Mrs. Nichols my 2nd grade teacher. She was wonderful to talk to. Theodore Sobel

So far so good. My child is in kindergarten, he/she is so far ahead in reading and writing. I don't remember ever learning all the stuff she knows when I was in kinder (25ish years ago). I've noticed some parents complain because of the rating on this website (5 out of 10)...PLEASE, the number 1 reason your child is not ahead or caught up with the rest of the class is primarily because of how much time the parent at home takes their time to help their child out. It's ridiculous to blame the neighborhood in which the school is in. There are primarily apartment building around this school, but that is no reason to put down the school...Your childs education starts at home!

2012 - 2013 school year is off to a slow start. I can only hope that the staff and educators that took the responsibility to teach our children can rise up, and do the right thing.

My son attended kindergarden this year and has an amazing teacher Mrs. B. She is kind and patient and holds the kids accountable to learn, i have noticed. The princible MR. principle was amazing also, during the first day of orientation he aswered many parents questions without us having to ask. It shows he has great leadership skills and his vision is strong that he leads his staff with. the ladies are the coolest and very knowledgable office administrators I have met, There is also a TA who is amazing. I know my son is in great hands, proud he attends this school!!

My son just started going to Lankershim in Dec. The current principal has only been there for a little over a year. I'm impressed with his commitment to the kids & to the school. In just these 6 months there have been several volunteer clean-up/beautification events - one where Universal/NBC employees participated in painting inspirational murals throughout the school. And a literacy garden was planted complete with reading benches for the children. There have been many other events and fundraisers as well. The new principal's commitment is prompting parents to get more involved. Academically, my child is in the school's gifted class. The teachers are kind, smart and provide adequate discipline. The school's commitment to preparing the students for the CST exam was also impressive. I'd also attribute changes in the school to the rapid changes in the NoHo Arts District neighborhood where the school is located. Five years ago this neighborhood was an impoverished, "scary" place. Today it's filled with luxury apartments, boutiques, restaurants, theaters & a farmer's market. It's reputation as the hottest up-and-coming neighborhood in LA is clearly benefiting Lankershim.
