I have 2 boys that have gone to this school, one from 2nd- 5th and my most recent kindergarten. We are moving out of the area and sadly they won’t be going to this school anymore. I cannot say enough great things about this school. It is truly the best school ever. The staff care so deeply for the kids and they treated us like family from day one. It was such a great experience and we are truly deeply going to miss this school.

We have 4 kids, and I will say, without a doubt, Opstad is probably the most and supportive and caring elementary school community that we have been a part of. It has a small town feel, but there is a great deal of emphasis on caring for the whole child and social/emotional intelligence. Academically, it is good. For kids who want to go at a faster pace, you might need to supplement at home, rather than look to the school to provide that in a truly impactful way, but I think that is true at most public schools. If you want your kids to feel safe and included in a good community with strong values, Opstad is the place to be.

Opstad Elementary has a small town school feel to it. Our family moved from Issaquah to North Bend and completely feel in love with the school. We noticed the difference right away. All the staff members we have spoke or worked with have been helpful, kind, and cared for our child. The school does a great deal to get involved with the PTA. The PTA events are always a success and the kids love them! Parents are used to seeing the school principal, Ryan Hill, greeting parents at drop off/pick up! Ryan is great communicator and approachable. The entire school has a great atmosphere.

We move from another state and my oldest son started his 1st grade here. He is now in 2nd grade and will be registering my daughter for Kindergarten next year, which gives you an option of FD or HD. My son has been happy with his teachers and no complaints so far. When I need to reach out for any reasons, the teachers and staff responds with a sense of urgency. I feel that I get the support I needed when issues arise and they are friendly. The new principle is great and is professional. I highly encourage parents, who have kids at this school, to give a review and support them and their community. The school is working towards improvements and continues to nurture and enhance learning beyond the district standards.

My child has been at Opstad since kindergarten and loves it. You really get a positive feel from this small town community school. The teachers and staff are quality members that are invested in the kids. The principal is new the last several years.

The principal is terrible! Hard to get a hold of, not responsive and has the wrong principles about what is right for the students. Forget about trying to provide input about child placement. That has no bearing to teacher selection. The teachers have to rate your child and based on that, a special committee creates rosters, not one teacher is in this committee. This is not about placing your child in a class where he/she can succeed. It is all about creating a class that would fit each teacher based on their weaknesses. I gave it two stars as they have a lot of great teachers and the secretaries are amazing. Management is about arranging and telling. Leadership is about nurturing and enhancing. Tom Peters

Great School! My oldest daughter just finished kindergarten and we had a great experience at Opstad! Her teacher was awesome with emailing and talking to us throughout the year to let us know how she was doing and how we could help her be ready for 1st grade! Love the new principle too!!
