Chaotic disorganized government run amuck unsafe environment , I cant believe all the people being so easily fooled by " quality newton" education ! Please purchase houses elsewhere and send your child to a private school ! If you want any education in this area you will need tutors, and a huge amount of time off to instruct your child yourself . Newton schools lag very much behind other near by towns . This school changes principals like diapers, and the administration is thoroughly incompetent and brain dead. Just make sure the attendance is 100% because that is ALL they care about to get their funding !

My son has been attending M-S for 4 years. As many of families, we moved into the area because of the reputation of Newton schools. We did know many people from the area, so our expectations were based on what we immanent a good school should be like and what our other friends from Brookline or Belmont were describing their kids' schools were. At first everything seemed very nice: our child was lucky to get a great teacher and had a happy transition to a new school. And after that it just started to roll downhill fast... Our child has not been happy to go to school after his first year... We were so greatly disappointed in many ways that are adding up every year... Technologically the school is stuck in 80s. Computers are used, but shared between classes and grades and generally there is not enough for each child, so one needs to be shared. Our friends from Jersey told us that at their daughter's school kids each have an I-pad for use in class and each classroom has a smart board. The cafeteria food is... well... But what is disturbing is that Newton schools advertise themselves as modern, progressive with accent on great education and healthy food... Where is all that, I don't know... We had to hire a Math and English tutors for our child because school is lacking tremendously! And we are thinking about private school for middle and high school. So what is this Newton hype all about?

I certainly agree with the previous comment regarding the dedication of the PTO and the Staff at the School. I have a child with special needs at the school and find the previous comments regarding Special needs Children offensive or appeared offensive . There is no more emphasis towards Special Needs and yes it's mandated. If you had a child with Special Needs you would certainly advocate for your chikd and also hope that your child would be included and not excluded from the riches of School Education and making Friends. It's extremely important for our kids to accept others with differences and create a community of acceptance or perhaps getting your chikd ahead is more important.

great school because of the dedication of the principal, the staff and the PTO. students from 30+ cultures and nations make up this community which is a huge asset found only in Newton/Boston area. the earlier review is about the old principal. this school is far better than a few years ago. best PTO volunteers ever. yes it does put emphasis on helping special needs children but that's mandate by the state, right? most kids i know go to after school enrichment programs to help them get ahead and newton has so many of them right here.

This is an extremely poorly run school. I worked here for a year and it had to be the worst teaching experience of my life. Don't get me wrong, the students are wonderful and I never felt anything but supported by the parents, but the other teachers were a nightmare. The Principal is clueless and totally overwhelmed by her position. There was a few staff members, mostly the younger ones, who were friendly, but the majority of the staff were unwelcoming and extremely unfriendly. You could barely get a forced smile or nod of the head when you passed somebody in the hallway, and everybody was always talking about everyone else behind their back. I have never been around so many really sorry, pathetic people in my life. On my last day of work, I was literally singing as I left the parking lot, knowing I would never have to deal the these miserable people again. If you are thinking about getting a job there, avoid the mistake I made and go someplace where people know how to treat one another with dignity and respect.
