This school is great! I have been here for a while now and I really do enjoy it. I find that because the school is smaller than most, it becomes easier to create a connection and relationship between teachers and students. The academics vary from what challenges you would face and there are 5 different tracks so each child has an opportunity to move up or down if necessary. There are a couple of issues though. The main one is the respect between the teachers and students. I would be walking down the halls and I will see a facility member raging at a student for wearing a hoodie that doesn't have the York Prep label on it. And in front of everyone might I add. It is humiliating for the kid, the faculty member has no idea why that child isn't wearing the hoodie and doesn't seem to care either. I get it. It can become frustrating when a child doesn't wear the dress code that the school assigned but as a teacher or headmaster or anyone that has a job that involves children, you should know that you cant treat anyone like that. You want the student to respect you and the rules of the school? fine, show them why they should, because when you are yelling at a student that gives them more of a reason to not respect you or the dress code. So next time just come up to them and respectively ask why they are breaking the dress code and move on from there. Now that I'm all fired up, I think another annoyance is the fact that I'm in my second year of high school and I haven't learned Shakespeare. Don't get me wrong the books that I'm reading are great and I do like them, but I love English and it gets annoying when I'm not challenged because I'm in a lower English class. That said, I really do love the school, the teachers that I have had are all gems, and especially during the pandemic, they have gone above and beyond in teaching me. The building of the school is beautiful and the location is spectacular. Truly those are the only two issues that I have with the school and I won't even call them issues, just things the school needs to work on. I had a bit of a hard time in math last year and the school handled it very well and I love my math teacher this year too! I really suggest York to anyone that wants their child to succeed.

It lacks students of color but overall a great school that gives kids an amazing middle / high school experience.

The school has the resources and the tools to be an amazing school. The administration lacks a long-term vision and makes decisions on a whim. There are many teachers that are ineffective, but have a lot of clout in the school. The school needs better leadership and needs to become clear of its educational intentions in order to be an effective school.

The school was very responsive to any concerns and questions that arose during the year. Everyone was so professional and responsive. Our daughter is actually missing going to school this summer. For the first time in her life, she is looking forward to going to school this fall. We could not be happier with a school.

My son has attended York Prep since the 8th Grade. He has taken all honors classes and has had wonderful engaged and thoughtful teachers and is well prepared for college. (He will be attending his first choice top level LAC next year after being admitted Early Decision). The school could use some lab facilities and more opportunity for experimentation in science, but the curriculum is well thought out and well taught. The teachers at this school truly care about the kids. They know them well (classes are very small -- I think the very largest class that my son has ever been in is 18 people) and they care about them as both scholars and people. It's a small and very caring school with teachers who love teaching, are knowledgeable in their subject matter and are always ready to meet with students who would like enrichment or help..

Cannot say enough good things about this school for our child who came from a very different progressive school and suffered greatly in that former environment. Our son was diiagnosed with ADHD, and has a defiicit in excutive functioning skills. York has incredibly gifted teachers who understand a wide range of learning styles, and who embrace each child for who they are. The Jump Start program is a gift, for anyone who avails themselves of it. Children learn to advocate for themselves and learn their strenghts and weaknesses. How rare that is. Thank you, York Prep.

I attended York Prep school back in the late 90s and it was a great experience being there as the teachers were very helpful and accommodating to all the students even when the students were having hard times.

We've been at this school for 3 years and so far our experience has been great. Our son is doing great in class, sports and has great friends. They don't teach the CORE, which is one of my favorite things about the place. There are days that are hard for my son but it's school and not everything is easy, I'm fine with that.

The teachers and administration were consistently accessible to our son and my husband and I. Edline was an invaluable tool for the parents to be informed of our son's strengths and weaknesses. York Prep made an enormous personal investment in supporting our son academically.

This school has strengths and weaknesses, like all schools. Its strengths are that it can accommodate all kinds of learners and has a good program for both gifted kids and learning disabled kids. Its weakness is that it's a for profit school, and is ultimately a business. The principal owns the school and answers to no-one so some feel it's a bit of a monarchy-slash-dictatorship rather than, you know, a nice village where people come together to educate kids. This can also be problematic given that his first career (many years ago) was in the law, rather than education. There's nothing wrong with that per se, except that lawyers just think differently than educators, and given the choice, many parents would not necessarily entrust their kids to the care of a lawyer. Having said all that, there are some good teachers, especially in history and math.

The school is a good high school for students grades 6-12 who want a really good learning experience with great teachers and convient within New York City. I enjoyed the learning experience that I got there and enjoyed the teachers and made new friends when I was there. The school can improve on its curriculum and creating less of a bullying/teasing atmosphere while building on its strong base of giving struggling and challenging students a great education and tools to help them in the future as they go to college.

A most unprofessional staff in admissions. if this is an indication of the quality and care of the school staff, I would defintiely not recommend this school.
