As a 10th grader at Winston Prep in NYC, I expected a school that would push me academically and prepare me for the challenges ahead. Unfortunately, my experience has been underwhelming.The classes feel too easy, and there isn’t much emphasis on challenging students to reach their full potential. Assignments and tests are often simplified, and it seems like they focus more on making things manageable rather than helping students excel. While I understand that the school might cater to students who need extra support, it feels like they don’t push anyone beyond the basics.If you're a student looking for a school that really pushes you academically, Winston Prep might not be the best fit. I wish they had higher standards or options for students who want to work harder and prepare for competitive colleges.

i like it it's and everyone great fit for me and everyone is sweet and fun and everyone is supper eeet she thr techsrs are helpfu, and i love getting a connection to younger kids

I graduated from this “school” several years ago and have to say I feel as though I was robbed of a proper high school education. The lack of any sort of wisdom, or wherewithal to know how to properly behave in front of students, and to help them experience their full potential is completely missing. At the time, a New York post article came out, declaring the salary of the principal and headmaster to be over 500 K per year. That’s a significantly larger amount the most Harvard professors make. The only thing this school tried to do to me was stunt my growth and not prepare me for college and the world at large. The school is a joke and I implore you to not send your kids there if you genuinely want what’s best for your child.

Not good. I would never wish this school on anyone. I know there are few options in NYC for children with LD issues, but I would avoid Winston at all costs. Even though, it must be said, Sandy H. who is now the headmaster is a v. nice man, and maybe he has been able to improve the school since we were there

My child has attended Winston in NYC for several years. It has been immensely helpful for her in terms of improving language based learning difficulties. Instead of speech therapy 1-2 weekly as she had in public school, Winston essentially provides speech therapy in *every* class. An educator friend/leader from another state told me there’s likely no other school in the country that can offer this type of teaching. Winston is able to offer small classroom size with students who all have a similar challenge with expressive learning. The teachers know specifically what these kids need. It’s changed her life.

My child experience was horrible and the school is overrated. It may be said to be one of the best for those with learning disabilities and disorders but in real life nothing was learned there.

The greatest thing we EVER did for our son was take him to interview at WPS. He wanted to go there from the moment he stepped in. The Staff will be part of his life forever and he made friends that we know he will keep

This was the worst experience in our family’s life. No communication with parents and no explanation to their teaching approaches . They lure emotionally desperate parents to buy their sales pitch at the cost of an Ivy League college tuition ( $60,000) They had a need to fill seats in the new school regardless of whether they could help or not . The headmaster has a BA in Human Ecology and claims to be an expert on ADHD .. my son’s reading and writing never progressed from the minute he attended . Because private schools are not regulated , there is zero accountability for their lack of effectiveness . Disgraceful- don’t be fooled by the sales pitch

I go to the one in New Jersey and it is awful. I am in high school and I'm learning stuff I've already learned in like 6th grade. The school is way to small and it will still be. The classes are terrible, the rules are terrible, and the learning is terrible. They treat us like little kids which I absolutely hate. There is no clocks and bells in the school which I hate. The class called focus does not make any sense because all you do is talk. There is also no Spanish and cycle classes and study hall is after school. 3 people have already switched schools since it was established in 2014 and there is many more to come. I have adhd and is still not the right place for me. Just a reminder if anyone visits this school, you do not want to come here.

Winston Prep is a unique and wonderful school where everyone - the deans, teachers, nd students - is interested in understanding how our kids learn and making sure that all obstacles are cleared so that our kids can reach their full potential. The educators teach to the kids learning style and level. The Focus teachers deal with the issues that can get in the way of education - whether they be social issues, organizational issues or educational issues. The atmosphere is positive and fun. Kids love being there. As a parent, I now have a group of strong, highly competant partners who are working to ensure that my child succeeds.

This is my son's first year and so far, it's been pretty wonderful. The staff seems to have a deep understanding of how to support kids who have learning issues, and they are very strategic in the way they teach. We are already seeing big positive changes in my son and frankly, we're kind of amazed.

Winston Prep is a great school for students who learn differently. Before I went here, my language wasn't a success. Therefore, my self-advocacy was lacking. Then, I met with a 1-on-1 "focus teacher" who truthfully told me that I needed to work on a few skills in order to succeed and they will believe in you. Also, the academic support is excellent and students there graduate with a diploma. Every teacher here cares about you no matter who you are. One thing to watch out for is classroom behavior. Sometimes I have to deal with class moving at a slower pace because it will help the others out. If that ever happens, every student should feel free to talk to a teacher; it really helps. Now I feel more confident about college, thanks to Winston Prep.

For Children that Learn Differently, Winston Prep is a Great fit. The Educators are far more than just "teacher's", they are a group of caring individuals who care more about the student than about the "job".

The school is warm and welcome to all families and students. I can't imagine working somewhere with a more passionate group of teachers, who are continually thoughtful and diagnostic of each student's learning needs.

The lack of communication at the school is profound. While my son struggled and struggled, they continually let me know too late that he was not doing well. A big disaster.

I agree with the Parent that believes the School doesn't need negative, unprofessional, disrespectful remarks against Dean Wm D; however as with everything, there is a back story. I can only rely on my experience and the right in this forum to comment. You are entitled to your comments as well. As the satisified Parent you are, I respect your statements & I am honestly not focused on whether you respect mine...

My son went there several years ago and it was a major disaster. I felt that he was mistreated and wrongly evaluated and it took them two years to get things right but it was too late. I feel that there is a reverse prejudice in place The headmaster is so sure that he is correct that he refuses to hear any alternative opinions
