Administration at this school is extremely unorganized, rude and unprofessional. They only care about filing seats to get funding. Their main concern is not the children. They are the worst at accommodating students with disabilities. Only good thing about this school is the teachers. Most of them actually show that they care about their students beyond just educating them.

My daughter started this school in first grade 2018 and has been doing excellent! At public school they stated she was behind and needed extra help, completely wrong! Super happy I made the change now she in middle school still exceeding!!

I regret from the bottom of my heart putting my daughter into this school. She had students that bullied her most of the time and nothing was done about it. She also had an IEP and suffers with depression and a mood disorder. The teachers she had would mostly blame her and she got suspended like every month for running out of the class and throwing tantrums about students bothering her. The new assistant principal (who was a woman) did not help either and I told her she was racist to which she replied to me she couldn’t be racist because she’s half black. Now that I took my daughter out of the school she is doing way better in academics and also mentally. I wish I never came across this school.

One of the best schools in Manhattan. The teachers are very well educated, they love kids as their own children, they teach them how to love learning from a young age. The school has excellent math, science and chess programs. Extended school hours allow students to access ~30% more learning time than other schools. Students at this school rank in the top 10 schools throughout NY State. Looking at math only they rank in the top 5 schools. Excluding “G&T kids only schools” from the ranking, as these schools are privileged with the best kids, SA HK would rank as the #1-2 in terms of the quality of education. Love this school and recommend it to everyone. Thank you to teachers and staff for all the hard work.

One of the very best schools in NYC. Strong academics, and very strong electives like Chess, theatre and sports. Can recommend without hesitation. Tuition-free.

My daughter has been attending this school since its inception. She's a rising 3rd grader and she couldn't be happier. We have friends that have left the school and we ask our daughter if she'd like to do the same and it's always with a strong "No!" The entire staff is excellent and caring. They all know my daughter and will do anything to assist in her education and well being. She gets homework throughout the year. Seriously, who likes homework. But in the long run, it's for the best. It helps to get the parent involved with their child's education and reinforces the concepts taught in the classroom. They teach it in a way that the student retains the information even after school has ended. She's constantly telling me facts about something she's learnt in school. The only sad fact about the school is the mayor is not allowing the SA schools to run an independent pre-kindergarten. I was really hoping my younger daughter would be able to start her education within an SA school, but now she'll have to wait until Kindergarten, same as her sister.

I am the parent of a kindergarten scholar who is now moving on to 1st grade at SAHK. This school is remarkable - the teacher's are dedicated and consistent. The environment is supportive, rigorous and caring. The school is very clean, the breakfast/lunch very healthy and the kids are safe in every respect. My daughter who had some tactile sync (sensory) issues entering the school and mild dyslexia excelled beyond my greatest hopes. She's on a reading level E, doing 1st grade math including multiplication, division, addition and subtraction and her confidence skyrocketed. The homework load is very manageable, especially for a working parent, and there are lots of opportunities for the families to participate in school activities. I love the community of parents at this school as well - a very diverse population which allows our children to learn and respect other cultures and backgrounds. It was an amazing first year with Success and we are looking forward to returning at the end of August.

We appreciate structure, respectful communication and a commitment to educating children; therefore we love and adore this school. Our son is in Kindergarten and the teaching methods have unlocked a love of learning in him. There are a lot of rules regarding behavior, courtesy, wearing of the school uniform, attendance and high expectations of parental accountability around homework. Let me be clear, I was not a fan of the concept of homework when the school year began, but daily reading and three words to spell each week is a logical and gentle system for a strong educational foundation. I think one of the reasons comments are made about "not being able to get away with this" at traditional public schools is the very lax approach to structure and accountability there. Success Academy is for parents who are willing to have their child arrive in uniform and on time daily so the focus can be on learning time as free from disruption and distraction as possible. We have the cell phone number of the principal and our son's teachers and consistent communication is not just possible but welcomed.Success Academy Hell's Kitchen is an outstanding school.

I am a parent of one scholar at SA/HK. The teachers and staff are all nice and friendly. Before sending your child to this school I would recommend a tour, and for each parent applying to do their research about SA guideline and rules. Although SA is a public school it acts worse than a private school. I personally will not be sending my child back to this school. I can't take another year of them to torturing my child. Kindergarten should be fun instead they have made my child dislike school. Of course the teachers teach great, but the level of discipline is unwarranted and their is favoritism. One child in another class gets punched in a face my another scholar and one child touched another scholar invading personal space. Now take a guess who got suspend for a day? You would assume it was the violent child but your wrong. I could go in for hours, but unless your an involved parent, you don't notice these things. Little things that don't seem right that a normal public school could not get away with SA. Really do your research, this school is a franchise.

Success Academy Hell's Kitchen SAHK is an excellent and well-run free public charter school. My son attends kindergarten there. The curriculum is well-designed to develop critical thinking skills and includes science every day with a dedicated science teacher in a science classroom, field trips about twice a month, and major "project-based learning" group projects. Reading instruction is individualized with small groups of children who are on the same reading level. Groups are reassigned regularly as children advance to higher reading levels. Math uses proprietary Success Academy methods based on the "radical constructivist" approach, which encourages children to find their own strategies to solve problems, and then share what worked with the rest of the class. The students figure out different methods to solve the same problem, and quickly find out which ones work best for particular situations. The children have math three times per day, including a daily one-minute math quiz. Children wear uniforms every day except for various theme days about once a month such as "crazy hat day", Halloween, etc.

My son is a first grader who attends this school. He loves it!!! He spent kindergarten at another top school , Midtown West. This has been the best decision we have made so far ,towards his education !
