The school website does not recognize staff and students. There's no way to see a brief summary of them and no way to contact teachers directly, and the website hasn't been updated since June 2021...I was interested in enrolling my children but the website looks old and outdated.

It is great to see the lower elementary school teachers socialize, be friendly and assist each other and their students. I do not see that with the middle school teachers. I have heard many, many, negative, things about one of the middle school teachers about the teacher's negative, bullying and condescending attitude and unfortunately will not be returning to have my child in that particular class in fear of my child's confidence and friendly attitude and personality diminishing.

I will be pulling my children out of this school by the end of the school year, they are in the process of being enrolled somewhere else where better services can be provided. Leadership skills are ineffective and students are not receiving what parents paid for.

This school is going downhill-for reasons too many to list, and it’s all because administration and and lack of communication and poor leadership. Please don’t torture yourself and your child by coming to this school. Staff are bullied by administration, it’s so sad.

Our family loves Immaculate Conception School! My son has attended ICS since kindergarten and now is in 6th grade. The teachers here are very dedicated and small classes mean more one-on-one learning. The school has a strong sense of community - many students stay through 8th grade so students really form strong bonds with classmates. There's a strong focus on preparing for high school and support for this transition starts early and really helps students reach their goals and find what's right for them. There's a good balance between classwork and homework; online and offline study. I would highly recommend ICS to families with children from Pk3-8th grade.

If you go to the school website there is no recognition or acknowledgment of any of the graduates from this year from the little ones or grades K or 8. They did nothing special for any students. Many Schools went out of their way for their students to make the memories they were missing due to this tragic pandemic special. This administration did nothing but the bare minimum. So sad that families paid for this treatment. They did not check on families. Only emails the administration sent were from the Archdiocese. Not how students and families should be treated during such an unprecedented time. The flea market that is based in the school yard have been treated better then these children and families were during this time.

This school has a diverse curriculum and student body, along with supportive and compassionate teachers that make sure every student feels heard. They have helped children through difficult transitions in their lives, especially with mental health, and have prepared them for high school through a variety of creative methods of teaching in class and online. They use many learning platforms to provide a well-rounded education, and prepare students to critically think, creatively and logically.

This school is really an excellent school! My class has been accepted to the best high schools in New York City, (public and private). All the teachers are nice and the academics are of a very high level. Our 8th grade teacher, Mrs. Wise, is probably one of the best teachers in New York City. ICS students are highly intelligent and the school won the Manhattan Catholic Math Challenge.

Immaculate Conception has been a perfect fit for our family. We have 2 kids in the school one attends the lower grades and another the higher grades. It's definitely a change from public school and it took some adjustment for our older child. Classes are smaller therefore all the kids know each other. The principal is very warm and welcoming, she has helped our family tremendously during our first year here. She is very strict but kind and always willing to help. This is a huge change for us since the principal at their old school was never available. The school is challenging academically, but it does lack in other areas. The communication can be a lot better between teachers and parents, we had to do some digging to find out how they were doing. They have apps where they update homework and project assignments and if you message teachers they respond to you very quickly. The after school program offers music, choir, dance, krav maga and I think soccer. It would be nice to see more programs targeted for middle school aged kids. The participation is high with the lower grades. It has is pros and cons but overall it's a much better experience for our kids. They complained about the uniforms but we haven't heard about any bullying or issues with what one person has and what another doesn't. Overall it's been a good solid first year, we look forward to next year.

I have a preschool age child attending this school . From the first day she has looked forward to going to class to see her teachers and friends. There is nothing greater than knowing your child enjoys her time at school. class size is small and the community of teachers and parents really create a feeling of community. It works for our family.

I guess the school keeps deleting the reviews they don't like. Many of the positive reviews here are written by the staff. A couple of years ago they had some students locked in a fridge during a field trip. They give tremendous amounts of homework that don't contribute to family life nor extra curricular activities, nor a healthy way of life for children. They don't even have a proper area for children to play. They hold recess in a parking lot or in a narrow passage way between the church and the school building. They don't allow children to run during recess, they get detention if they see them running. This school does not look out for the best interest of the children they enroll, they are more of a prison. My kid was so happy when we pulled him out of this school. I do not recommend it to anyone who has their child's best interest in mind.

This school has been amazing for my child. The negative reviews on here are unfortunate, sad and unnecessarily malicious. In terms of the school - the teachers know all the students in all of the grades. They are warm and welcoming and make it a point to say good morning to everyone unlike some of the parents in the school. Mrs. Barry is incredibly kind, caring and patient. Ms. Bua ALWAYS has a smile on her face which is a real delight first thing in the morning. If you have more than one child attending this school, you're incredibly lucky as there is a break on the tuition - something you don't find everywhere in the city. I can't recommend this school enough. There are always a couple of bad apples in the bunch but this school / staff is incredible. Keep up the good work!!!!

Immaculate is an amazing school. The faculty, staff and administration are extremely dedicated and committed to the students and their success. The principal, Mrs. Barry is always present and available to both parents and students. My two girls enjoy going to school and just adore their awesome and talented teachers. My son who graduated immaculate is starting college this fall. He received a great scholarship and I owe it all to the excellent educational foundation he received at Immaculate. Thank you to all the staff and administration for your passion and dedication to our students!

The Principal doesn't communicates anything with parents and will pick 2-3 parents to write a positive review when ever an incident happens. Parents should write a positive review because they want to not asked too!

My kids love going to school every day. The entire faculty knows all the children and always makes them feel comfortable. The principal addresses all the children by their first names. We are moving and have went to open houses in other Catholic schools and nothing compares to ICS. The teachers and the curriculum are above average and they all know how to deliver and teach common core. They also know how to teach it to the parents. Some teachers give the parents their own tip sheet so we can do the homework with our kids correctly. Great school, talented teachers that are smart, and the principal has an open door policy for parents.

Update to October 12, 2014 Post: We are removing both of our children from this school at the end of this school year. I do not believe a 5 year old child should be given a label!

I have enrolled two children at this school for over 4 years. Their academic standards are very high and my children do very well on the NY State tests. Much higher than the NY state averages, which show that this school must be doing something right. There is a strong community feeling and all the children are known by the staff. There are a variety of after-school activities along with homework help and many activities are included in the small fee. My children are well rounded and overall this is a good school.

We are a family who is new to this part of the City. Our children have been enrolled in both public and private schools, but we do want them to have a long term experience of a Catholic school. In a recent visit, we found the school to be exactly what we hoped to find as parents largely unfamiliar with the Lower East Side. The principal and staff were extremely welcoming. The tour of the school showed us that Immaculate Conception is at the cutting edge of the STEM initiatives, and the music and art programs seem to be quite lively. Thank goodness that this school has not thrown out an arts curriculum to accommodate Common Core during every hour of the day! Students were courteous and friendly, and teachers were thoroughly engaged with their classes, eliciting many interesting responses to many different situations in all subject areas. Perfect examples of Common Core Standards in action! We are pleased to have enrolled our children for September and look forward to becoming a part of this academic and faith community.
