I've noticed gradual changes in AFSE recently. At first this school used to be pretty terrible a few years back; but now different things have been implemented. Learning: Students at AFSE are (mostly) engaged and eager to learn about the topics teachers give to the students during class. There has been more focus and teachers have more control over the classroom. Teaching: Not only are this years teachers passionate about teaching their students, to the point where they hold afterschool tutoring. But students seemed to be focused and "locked in" when learning thanks to the teachers.Social-emotional support: Students have accessibility to numerous rooms or programs after school to cope with problems they have when they are feeling upset. From the focus room all the way to the library (shared by other schools); students have been less angry at eachother, or sad inside themselves. Special Education: Special ED students have been provided with earlier dismissal to lunch (the lunch line is always crowded and they are dismissed from 4th period a few minutes early to be there first) a mentor/worker to be with them, and more lenient grading. This can also apply to the disabled, along with priority access to the elevators. Safety: There is scanning and increased security to combat the school shootings that happen in America. (and lets face it, its usually always the US) Nobody is an exception to immunity from scanning, students, leaders, teachers, staff, anyone that comes inside this building is scanned along with their bags for any sharp objects (not only including knives, but also hand crafted shivs) and are confiscated just as guns. This is lead to a talk about why the person would bring this to school and possible punishment. Speaking of punishment, students here at AFSE are mostly chill. Of course, there are bad students who misbehave regularly; but they are harshly punished for their actions. Family Engagement: As of course, there are parent teacher conferences; there are PTA meetings, check ups with parents of students who are troublemakers, events/trips with parents able to chaperone, and much more! The only negative things I'd have to say about all six of these factor would be; -Security gaurds carry tazers but no firearms -At very rare points, learning becomes just WAY too easy. A trend I've noticed where at somewhat a few months once a week. Other: contains: python store (buy things with python points), a lot of afterschool

The school started out with good intentions and good people. The original principal was so good that he got promoted to other places. The school has gone downhill since. The environment is not safe. The current principal is not effective at organizing the staff or motivating the students.

The entire staff including principal aren’t what the school is said to be. They sugar code everything and are students have to navigate things on their own. Learning isn’t differentiated only on paper. Things occur within the classroom as if the teachers not present. Cellphone policy isn’t enforced the rules are displayed for show This school causes students to develop a low morale of themselves. They claim to Forster student individuality and independence just the opposite. DO NOT Sacrifice your child’s future by sending them to this school.

I don't recommend going to this school don't put this on your top options of going to high school. Generally try to ant apply any limited unscreened schools I'm saying this because any students can attend to these school and they don't have any regulations. You automatically get in if you go to their open houses like this school.

After my wisdom teeth were pulled out, I said "I'd rather get them pulled again than deal with this school" Unlike other people, I actually mean it. This school is the worst school I've attended.

The teachers and staff are great as well as the curriculum! The teachers really care about your child's future & helping them to prepare for college. My son transferred in the 2014-2015 school year as a freshman & he learned so much this school year. I also love the fact that your child receives a mentor in the field that they believe they want to go in & that mentor is with them from freshman year til graduation! I cannot imagine a high school better than this one. If your kids love technology, this is definitely the school they will want to attend. You won't regret it & neither will they. I hate that we had to relocate because I really wanted my son to graduate from this school.

A new school, with teachers who care for the kids, and good leadership! Looking froward to the next years.
