Sunnyside has been a wonderful school for our family for the past five years. The teachers are amazing (all have had masters/specialty degrees) and truly seem to love teaching and care deeply about the kids in their classrooms. The academics are challenging but not too overwhelming or stressful. There is a positive focus on school community and mental health, which is so important to instill in early grades. Music programs (band/orchestra) are great! I am shocked that the school is rated so low on this site; we have had an excellent experience at Sunnyside!

My student has attended for three years post-covid, and have been so impressed by the support and the community behind this school. The staff is invested in the best interests of their students despite how difficult it has been for our world to recover from a global pandemic.

My daughter just finished 1st to 5th grade here. Some of the teachers were great, others average and a few that weren't so good. The school seemed to get worse as we went through the years and the grades. 5th grade was definitely the worst and it seemed like she came home and discussed the classroom disruptions and drama and rarely what she was learning. The teachers overall were very nice, but I feel like they need to focus more on educating the kids.

Sunnyside has been a great fit for our family. I, too, am surprised by the low scores, as the school is so passionate and involved with the students. There is a low student/teacher ratio, and usually an additional teacher in each class to assist with reading or for assist children who speak English as their second language and need more help. This allows for teachers to really get to know students, and get involved if they have needs, or just need extra attention. We have dealt with incidents of some behavior issues (not bullying but picking on/being inappropriate) and it has been brought our attention and handled with great care. The Dean, the teacher and principal all communicated with our family and worked on mediation with all of the students, , and the issue wasn't 'severe' in my opinion. But, it was treated seriously and with great care, which prevented any further issues.The level of involvement with all staff, including the principal is impressive. The school is also very diverse, which means our daughter gets to experience children of all races, classes, cultures etc. like the 'real world'. We appreciate this exposure, as that alone teaches her skills that will help her in life more than any test could.

Teachers and leadership genuinely care about the students. They work at making learning hands-on and inter-disciplinary, which helps students learn and connect concepts from different subjects. We moved here from a further-out suburb with a stellar school score, and yet Sunnyside is a better school. Its teachers are the most engaged I've ever seen. I highly recommend this school to any family.

Excellent school and wonderful teachers. My son is thriving at this school. I am baffled that it is ranking so poorly on this site
