It's a horrible school and a horrible school system. They tamper with the OSSA scores to make themselves look good. My daughter didn't do well in the Science portion of the testing. I got the results back and her science score was nowhere to be found. It was never counted. The teachers don't provide the students with the extra help needed to learn anything. They only teach to make sure the PSSA tests come back with good results. I pulled all of my children out of there and they are doing so much better now. They are actually learning in school and they have no downtime. They also get homework to reinforce what they have learned and they are all doing great.

I feel that Rice Elementary is a great school. Both my children that attend have received a great education thus far. I will say that your experience may lie within what teacher your child gets, but with parent involvement, I truly believe any child can excel in the school setting. I've seen great improvement in my one child's academics since she has begun there and I truly believe it has been the teachers that she has had that guided her and with our involvement, helped her succeed to where she is an excellent student. The PTA holds great events and is very involved in trying to make each year a success and have some fun in the school setting. I love how they decorate the school upon each season and have heard so many compliments as it makes the children excited to enter the building. Great job Rice Elementary!

Some of the teachers here think they are a God-send. They talk to parents like they are inferiors and if any questions are asked they become extremely defensive. It was very difficult to be actively involved in our children's education and progress this year. I was repeatedly denied information regarding my child's progress and told it was unnecessary. While we received unlimited impersonal mass emails, that was the extent of communication. We approached teachers about an academic issue we noticed with one of our children and they told us it was no big deal; a month or so later they were calling us in to the office for an "urgent" matter - to inform us of the issue we already attempted to discuss and resolve and to tell us now we (the parents) need to fix it. Teachers were unable to provide any remedies that they had tried at school or in the classroom. As a teacher, I tend to strongly emphasize with and see another teacher's point of view, as I understand how difficult it can be. But, the teachers this year lacked in SO many areas it was mind-blowing.
