This school has an amazing academic score for one reason... they hold back students who can't keep up with their peers at an extremely high rate. My child attended Mt. Zion schools since kindergarten and we have personally known OVER a dozen children that have been held back over the years. The principle at this school is very unwilling to work with parents and the teachers hand out detentions far too easily (which go on the child's permanent records). The leadership at this school is absolutely terrible! We had problems with one of the second grade teachers so we wanted the principal to know of our concerns but our emails and correspondence were completely ignored and we got no response at all. The best thing about this school is the challenge program for gifted students. My child was in this program in 3rd grade and the teacher and curriculum are amazing. This extra class really helped my gifted child to learn material outside of the normal curriculum, which was too easy. The regular teachers my child had over the years have not done anything to challenge my child so this challenge program was very helpful for my child academically.
